wimpywade94 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Hey all, Im in the middle of rebuilding a banshee i picked up last month, Ive already got a set of t-5's im working on getting polished up, and i got a set of pods for it last week, , i just orderd a weisco ultralight kit, a coolhead, and a adjustable timing plate, ill probably run a 20cc head, im at about 800 ft above sea level, and will be riding in 90+ deg all summer, I dont mind running a mix of race and pump or even full race. I need to true and weld the crank, and will most likely have that done now. I also want to get some porting done on the motor, if i get the crank welded and get the bike back together, can i wait for a few months to get the porting done, and ride it with the new top end., then use the same top end when i send off the jugs for porting? or will i have to get a new top end set again? thanks guys wade Quote
trueraiderfan Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Man I would just port it while you already have it taken appart. if you dont you will really just be doing twice the work you really need to. JMO course I just like things simple like that Quote
badshee Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 just go ahead a do the porting while the motor is tore down.. save the headaches... if the porter makes a nik in the cylinders he may have to bore them again,, he will have to hone the cylinders after the port job so imo go ahead and get the porting done now. you will absolutely love it... hope this helps..... Washburn Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Are you wondering if the bolt ons will give you enough power? I dont understand. If its all taken apart and your gonna weld the crank then yeah get it ported wile your at it and save the extra time and money. If your not sure what type of port you want to go with get a nice cheap clean up port bolt on all of your new mods and RIIIIIIIP. If you want more power you can always get it ported more later but you should know where and how you ride and what type of power you want/need. Unless you just got your bike. Quote
Animalman294 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Thats right you need to decide what tpe of riding you do to figure out what type of porting to do. I mean there is dune port (personal favorite), woods port, race port, MX port............. Quote
baddsheee Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Some builders are going to say to go with a fresh top end when you have it apart. In this case I would definitely do the porting at this time. When mine was ported I slapped a fresh top end on. Quote
Toybreaker Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 It is already apart. I say Port it now. If you decide to wait and the porter nicks a cylinder you will have to overbore it. Save your self the headache(and money) and port now. Quote
wimpywade94 Posted December 8, 2006 Author Report Posted December 8, 2006 fair enough, I think im going to try the ebay porting and get the dune port, and at the same time have the crank welded. thanks for the eye opener guys, wade Quote
