I sold my 06 banshee to a mate :mad: , it had very little use and was running fine.

it has ....

alien exhausts

carbs jetted for above

+4 t/plate

v force 3 reeds

 

My so called mate has let me down and returned the quad to me.

The problem i have is that he said it started not to run like it used to, it lacks power and and when you give it some throttle it coughs and splutters.

i got the quad back today and seams ok now.

so could it have been some dirt in the carbs?

And if it was carb related could it have done any damage to the pistons ect?

Should i remove the heads and have a look or just leave it alone?

how long did he ride it "missed up"? if it was jetting and it wasnt ridin much it should be fine...

 

ony way jetting is going to hurt it any is if it was ran for a while and was lean then you could be looking at some piston damage or if he ran too low of octane and it was detonating... othr then that jetting shouldnt have hurt it... do a plug shop and see if its jetted right... if so make some passes and see if it cuts out like he was saying it did... he might have just relized he didnt have the money to spend on it and this was a way to get you to tak eit back? i had a guy do that with a dryer he bought from me...some poeple just arnt man enough to comout and tell you so they make things up

I heard it when it was running bad.I would say it was half to full throttel when it was doing the fault..

He has used it about 4 times and between 5 to 10 miles each time.

Im going to try it tomorrow and see how it runs.

the quad has done about 600 miles in all, so am i best to remove the heads and look?

yea id at least crack it open and take a look... cant hurt, only a few bucks to replace your head gasket ... i dought theres any damage but just to be safe might as well...also take off your carbs and reeds and look at the skirts of the pistons and see if there is any gouging...

Thanks for your help. will i have to replace the gasket below the cylinders as well or just the head gasket?

if you only take the head off thats the only one youll need to replace...

Do you think maybe your friend started putting regular in the shee? With your advanced timing it's mandatory that you run primo in her. As the gas you had in the bike was burnt, and he kept topping off the tank with regular, it could create a gradual loss of power. Just a thought.

if hes freind did, there gonna be some pretty marks on the piston. :confused:

 

 

anyways if it idles fine in my experience the carb shouldnt be too dirty.... check your carb tunning, change plugs, and put some 93 octane in there. see how she runs and were she sputters the most. check the air filter aswell... carb being dirty would be a wore ripped air filter or gas sitting in the carb for a long time.

 

if this all doesnt resolve nothing take that top end off, and good for nothing those pistons can be tmie for a change..
