Ok guys, I just picked the title to my new(new to me) banshee last night. The guy I bought it from never transfered it into his name and the person he got it from never signed the title. So I'm wanting to know what I gotta do to make it legal and everything. Titling an atv is not that big of a deal in TN i'm pretty sure, just wanting to make sure I dont get into any bind or anything. I have no idea who the guy got it from, and the title says they live in a town about an hour from me. So what do I need to do?

Do a search on the first owners info, contact him via phone letting him know what's going on and ask if you have pemission (and would vouch if need be) to sign his name on the "seller" line.

Then take it to the notary..

If you do it without his knowlede I believe it's a felony...

I'm going through the same thing right now... Bought a bike from person "X" when the title said person "Y"

Person "X" is now trying to claim ownership for the vehicle, since I have a signed bill of sale from person "Y" I had to resort to putting a mechanics lein against the title to prevent the ATV from bieng confiscated.

Good luck, I'm sure you will be OK, but I will never personally do a sale again without proof of ownership and a valid ID...

Yeah, I hope I dont run into anything like that. But i've got the actual title of certification, so there shouldnt be any problem. I may call the guy I bought it from and see who he got it from. Thanks for the input.

Yes, The numbers are still on the engine, havent checked the frame yet. I am not worried about it being stolen or anything, I have the legal Title to the quad. I just havent got the signature of the persons name thats on the title. I'm gonna call the guy I bought it from and see if he bought it directly from the person thats on the title, if so i'll probably just call them and make sure it's cool if I just sign their name.
