Foot peg broke off

Well to sum up a long story, asically the left foot peg got broken off the bike. The bolts that hold it on are broken as well and still in the frame. Do i just drill it out? Im sure someone here has had the same thin happen and just wondering what was done to fix the problem. Thanks :beer:

You just need an easy out. You drill a small hole into the broken stud, then switch to the easy out. Once you see an easy out you'll understand how it works.

is it just the bolt that snapped? If so then like mentioned an easy out will work no problem, sometimes you may have to heat the outside of the area first if its locked in there. I have the same problem except the nut that the bolt threads into completely broke off inside so I have no threads to catch, still trying to figure out how to approach that one

I bought a frame from Zilladude (I don't know if he still visits the forum) with that problem. He had another Banshee with the same problem as well so he had already figured out a solution. He had some inserts machined (about $20 each) that would replace that nut. We had to grind the end of the tube off that the original footpeg nut is attached to so the insert could be pressed in and welded. The inserts worked great and are much more stable than the original setup.

Hmmm I will have to look into that, I have ran across several people who have had the same problem but most of them were able to somehow grab the nut and weld it back to the frame, i just dont see how cause its inside the cross tube. I dont understand why they just didnt originally make the threads part the cross member that the peg bolt already goes into. I was thinking maybe just tap out the hole and use a bigger bolt, kinda makes sense :shoothead:

 

Wallrat: from what I understand the threads the bolt goes into is actually a nut that is factory welded to inside the cross tube which the bolt threads into, its not part of the tube itself like most other ATV's/Bikes. On occasion it breaks off inside the tube and now you have nothing to thread into

Okay, here you go. It is not a CAD drawing but it should get the idea across.

 

I don't remember the hole size for the bolt but the tap size was 10x1.25.

I had a combination of both problems. I had a bolt snap off on the left footpeg front bolt. Had to drill and retap the hole with a bigger bolt. Then I also had that damn nut break loose in the frame on the same side. What I did was drill both sides out and slide in a piece of all-thread. Works great. I also butter up all my hardware with anti seize now.

I had the bolt inside the frame break off before. You can just take a cutting torch and cut that area open, peel it back. Weld on a new bolt really well, then peel the metal back where its suppose to be, weld it up, and grind it smooth. Thats the hard way, wish I saw those inserts 2 weeks ago.
