Im tearing my banshee down to the frame and I got to the tie rods and they wont budge!I took the nuts off and are the ends supposed to just pull off or am I doing something wrong.

If you have the nuts off of the tie rod ends, just hit the steering stem with a hammer right around where the tie rod end goes into the stem. Kinda on the side around the edge. Same with the spindle side.

if they're really stuck you can tighten down a 2 finger gear puller on the stud too, and then hit the top of the puller if it doesn't pop apart.

OR you could do it the right way and get a tie rod end puller.

Just dont hit it with a hammer, it will smash threads if you hit it or tear a boot.

Ok I got the rod off,now im stuck on the arms connecting to the spindles. What kind of puller are you talking about?

You SHOULD be able to do it the same way. With a hammer. I have heard of using a pickle fork tool to get them off but sometimes that tears the boots. Other than that I dont know what other tool there is.

Just for the record - I didnt meen hit it on the actual tie rod end itself. I meant hit it on the part that the tie rod end goes into. Around the edge of it. That will knock it loose.

put the castle nut back on upside down about flush with the ball joint threads, then use a 2x4 over the nut and smack it with a hammer. The nut will protect the threads and give a bigger surface area to hit. Don't go crazy, but it should drop out of there.

Do what DVS1 says. Put the nut on, and use the 2x4 so it wont do damage.

The tool im talking about it a tie rod end removal tool that is used on cars. Some specailty tool shops should have one. Or maybe ebay would have one.

Been doing it this way for 15 years.... It works great

... and you don't toutch any threads/nuts, or anything that effects fittment.

I've used the pickle fork idea in the past, but I was replacing boots at the same time so didn't mind if I tore them. I used a fork in my air hammer and they came right out, didn't even have to try. I also spray penetrating oil on parts like that the night before I plan on doing it. Makes everything soooo much easier.
