To make a long story short, a friend of my mother's is moving into town from California, and she doesn't think her car can make the drive...so she was asking if there were any ways to ship her car here, but I had no idea what to tell her. I was hoping to see if any of you have looked into this, or done it, and could let me know what you've run in to...

If it were me, I'd just hook it up to the back of a uhaul and tow it here, but I don't think she was wanting to do that...

Thanks!!

Travis, there are companies that do it, but I don't think its very cheap. $0.50/mile I'm thinking....

I know a guy that bought a nearly mint 88 IROC on eBay and had it shipped here on one of those car hauler/moving parking lot deals. I see them all the time here with high dollar cars on them, most of them even have that white shrink wrap plastic on them as well.

I know it exists, but I can't remember what its called. <_<

call all the moving companies around tennessee and see if any of them are heading to california in the near future, they'll usually haul it back with them for a fraction of the cost....

her next best monetary way is to haul it behind the uhaul.....just tell her to not back up and she'll be fine, wont even know its there

If she doesn't think he car would make it tell her to sell it and buy something different when she gets where she's going. No point in wasting the money on shipping an unworthy car.

That's what I'm trying to convince her to do, so when she gets here she can buy my wife's car and we can go get a new one :D

Thanks for the responses everyone, I'll let her know that she "could" ship it, but it would cost WAY more than she's willing to spend. The uhaul would be ideal, but she'd be renting the uhaul strictly for moving the car...From what I hear, all she has to move is her clothes :shrugani:

They do have shippers, I'm in the army and we can ship our vehicles to new duty stations if we chose not to drive. I've never had to price it though because the Army pays for it. For that matter I've never shipped one of my own, but I have gone down the the shipping agent a couple times with people whe were getting out and shipping their vehicles home. My vote is if it won't make the drive sell it.

edit: Also, the shippers that the Military use only ship to certain locations. So you would have to go to the closest recieving agent to your location to pick it up. Just one more reason to swap it out instead of bring it.

I have bought two Trans Ams off of Ebay and had them shipped to me. The first one I bought out of Redondo Beach, California and it cost me $600 to have it shipped to Topeka, Kansas. The second one I bought out of Portland, Oregon and it cost me $700 to have it shipped to Topeka, Kansas. I used a company named Trusty Transport and they did a real good job. They will give you a free quote online if you get on their website. Gas prices are quite a bit higher now so it may be more expensive. I would just pull it with the Uhaul. It would be easier and cheaper. Good luck!

Here you go Travis, this is a buddy of mine and he's been in business along time. He's probably one of the cheapest around and only uses the most qualified and best insured truckers in the business. His name is Kevin, tell him Brad sent you.
