aguirre1120 Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 I have a 2000 Banshee. I have made a few modifications over the years, primarily bolt-ons. I have found the further from stock I get, the more problems I am having. I have installed the following: FMF fatty pipes/silencers, Moose jet/needle kit,V-Force reeds, twist throttle and a Chozen Performance cool head w/20cc domes. I was told by Yamaha dealership when I bought the cool head, I could run pump gas with the 20cc domes. Well 20 minutes into Dumont.... I am running on 1 cylinder.... My buddy took top end apart and my cylinder sleeves/pistons were all eaten up. One of the domes were also pitted. He says that it ran too lean resulting in the damage. Now my question is.... what is the best way to fix the top end of my bike without spending thousands of dollars?? I was looking at different piston kits from various companies, does anyone have any feed back from those and which do you consider the best. Is it better to re-sleeve my cylinders or just buy new ones?? I know this is long, but I just want my bike fixed. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
banshdog Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Rebuilding the top end will not cost you thousands, more like a few hundred if you do the work yourself. You dont need new cylinders, unless you have had them bored several times before. Take your cylinders to be honed or bored, and be sure that the person who is doing this has the pistons that are going to be installed. I have Wiesco pistons in my bike, no complaints. Quote
sheefreak Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 At 20 cc's you are probably experienceing detonation. You are also asking for trouble if your crank isn't welded getting to 20 cc and lower. I agree, wiesco is the way to go. I would personally back down to a 21 cc if you don't want to run half and half race gas, and dig in to the bottom end of your motor to send your crank off to be welded. Quote
MILO Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 i've always depended on wiseco's for any rebuilds. don't think you can go wrong there. new cylinders from the stealership will run about $400 each. that's definitely not the way to go. get it honed/bored, new pistons, wristpin bearings, gaskets etc. and you'll be looking at roughly $250 to do it yourself. your head manufacturer may sell replacement domes for the head also, i'd look into that. nutcase Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I personally think your jeting was wrong.Im running 18cc domes with power reeds, reed spacers,290 mains, and ported jugs by myself.I run 93 octane all day long and have never had any problems.I would get wiseco prolite pistons and replace your domes.SHouldnt cost you over $260 to get it done. Are you at a high elevation? Quote
aguirre1120 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 I live in Las Vegas, I think our elevation is around 2200-2400. I have read and have been told I could run pump gas with 20cc domes. I have also been told not too. I am guessing to be on the safe side I will get 21cc replacements. Does anyone live in a similar elevation? Any suggestions on jetting with the 20cc or 21cc domes? I have never had the cylinders honed or bored, I just hope they aren't too damaged to have that done. Any other suggestions, besides "get a four stroke"???? Quote
aguirre1120 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 I have done some mor reading through past posts..... If my cylinders can be bored, then do I have to wait to get piston kit??? How do I know what size to get??? Sorry about stupid questions, but I am new to this. Quote
810darren Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 who ever you have do your work will know what size you will need and probally be able to order them for you depends on if they will clean up enough on the hone or if he has to bore it.the sizes will go along with them circumstances.but he will know what size tou will need.i agree with going with the weisco match and balanced set.
