harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Ok I have a question for you guys.. My topend is at a shop now waiting on me to call them and tell the to goahead and port and polish it, and maybe send my bottom end to them and have a 4mill crank put it.. Now what I am thinking, will I be happy with a P&P with 4mill crank, and .20 over on the pistons, OR should I leave the botom end as is, and just but the complete Cheeta Cub top end for the stock crank? What will make the most power for the money. Quote
watkins Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I am sure the others will chime in as well, but I dont know how the stock crank is going to hold up to the HP the Cubs put out. Is your crank at least welded? If you are wanting power for the money and you will only be .20 over when your done then I would say a port job would do it. Quote
harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 What kinda power should I be looking at with the cheetah cub topend? Long story short, I will be cheaper to just buy the cheetah top end vs. this guy doing my motor work I think.. I would just really like to hear some opions.. Cheetah cub topend or .20 P&P stock jugs, and 4 mill crank??? Quote
biggun6ss Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I see that right now your banshee is 100% bone stock. If you get porting or cubs you are going to want some new pipes and bigger carbs. Wether you get cubs or porting you are going to want to have your crank welded and trued. If you get bigger carbs, pipes, and the cubs I am thinking you will make more power than the p&p with a +4. To get everything you will need for the cubs it will cost over a grand if you do it right. Quote
cdwood37 Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 over a grand? your crazy try over 2 grand, don't lie to him. To go from stock to a cheetah cub you have to have everything carbs, filters a head throttle cables the cylinders a trued and welded crank with pistons and basically everything you can hing of from F.A.S.T racing, which is the best price around it was 2400 bucks. without pipes Quote
harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 Ok guys let me clear some thing up. My banshee sits stock right now, but here is what I have to put on it.. Toomey T-5's Prodesign ProFlow w/ K&N V-Force III Reeds Reed Spacers Boost Bottle Adj. Timing Plate A lot of people said that I can make my stock carbs work for the P&P w/ 4 mill Crank. I did talk to to shops today that said I would be happier running the cheetah cubs, with what I already have, and I could use the stock carbs jetted right, but I would get more power with bigger carbs, but they only said like a 28mm So I do have some item already here for the banshee, but they are just not on, I am waiting to see what to do with the motor.. Quote
harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 Now with that said, I have found the cheetah cubs w/ pistons for $1050 shipped to my door. Quote
cdwood37 Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Yeah thats an excellent price for the cylinders and the crank, you still have to have all the other stuff carbs head reeds timing plate filters intakes the whole nine yards Quote
biggun6ss Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I think you are gona need some bigger carbs for the cubs to get full power output. Why get cubs and run small carbs reducing the power output? If you get the cubs you will need to get your crank trued and welded or it is just going to come apart, may be the first ride or a year later but when it goes so will other things. The pipes will probably be ok but would be better with some shearer or cpi's. If you don't ride in any water then I would get some clamp on k&n's. The V3 reeds will be fine. You will need the reed spacers if you get bigger carbs, which you should do. The boost bottle you won't need unless you just like it for looks. If you get the p&p with a +4, you will benefit using bigger carbs. This also depends on what type of p&p you are getting ( drag, dune and play). Quote
harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 Ok carbs aside, if I need them I will buy them, but with what i have and I can buy bigger carbs, do you think Cheetah Cub top end, or P&P with 4 mill? Also I am going to have my crank True and welded. So that and carb swill be done.. Quote
biggun6ss Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 If you have the money to get all the things you need then get the cubs. The cubs will have a lot of top end power. If you are going to ride in sand with paddle tires you might want to get a +4 extended swingarm also so you aren't flipping over backwards all the time. You could also get +4 crank with the cubs. harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 would some 30mm PWK's be a good choice?? I am almost decided just to do the cheetah cub topend. I am thinking I may sell my t-5's and get some rockets.. Any sugestions? Quote
Tim C Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) I ordered the Cheetah cubs last week for a stock stroke crank and I'll be running 30mm carbs. Jim (at Passion Racing) told me it will work fine with them just I won't be getting the full potential out of the Cubs unless I went to bigger carbs (35mm). If you buy a 4mm stroker and get your cylinders ported you'll still need bigger carbs to get the full power from them. With Cubs (and stock carbs) you'll be in the 75HP range and still have good reliability.........I doubt stock ported cylinders will be as reliable and depending on who ports them maybe not as powerful either. Rockets, CPI's or Shearers would definitly be better with Cubs then your T5's but thats something you can get down the road like the bigger carbs. I'd say go with the Cubs! harley_sr Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 1/8th mile drag strip, fast trails, and like to hit the dunes.. I am not all about just drag racing, but I do like to do my fair share of racing.. I am thinking that the cheetah cubs will be the way to go.. I just need to see what carbs will be good for me.. My T-5's have a brand new ceramic coat on them, and look 100% brand new again. I just saw a set go out on ebay just like mine with the same coat for over $600 last night. If I get $450 for mine I will get new pipes for sure.. Quote
