vitovito240 Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 whats up, my buddies new 06 banshee was at the top of a hill and rolled down into a tree. the bumper got all smashed up as a result. is there any reason to be worried that the frame might be bent? i told him that the bumper probably took all the impact and the frame will be fine. what do you guys think? Cotton eyed Joe Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 When you say rolled down and hit a tree, that could mean a few things. My banshee sort of hit sand, but it twisted the frame 1.5" out of square between the a-arms and the foot pegs. Add another 3 inches to the grab bar and you can see how twisted the frame really was. None of the suspension would even work. Its hard to tell if a frame is twisted really unless you ride it and look at it from a few angles. I would check it for twist after a wreck that smashed the bumper just as a precaution. From the factory a bare banshee frame looks like a kid in Honduras put it together in his front yard. Look for cracked paint, and cracks near welds etc. Paint cracks would be the best though. Quote
vitovito240 Posted April 2, 2006 Author Report Posted April 2, 2006 here are some pics of the bumper. the bike went down about a 50 ft hill and hit the tree pretty hard. from looking at the bumper impact do you think the frame is going to be a little tweeked?? Quote
vitovito240 Posted April 2, 2006 Author Report Posted April 2, 2006 and another, what does every one think Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 I'd say you're fine. That little ding aint anything to worry about. Quote
vitovito240 Posted April 2, 2006 Author Report Posted April 2, 2006 thanks for the reply, ya i wasnt sure because i didnt see it actually hit but i heard it and it was pretty loud. Quote
RIPPEN Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 Looks like it hit pretty square so I would agree with CEJ. My buddies bike got slammed into buy a car going 20-25 and the bumper took most of the beating. Worst case the frame may be a LITTLE tweeked but youll probably never notice... RIPPEN Quote
wesw Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 My buddies bike got slammed into buy a car going 20-25 was your buddy on it, and how did that happen exactly thats really screwed. Quote

Gargamel Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 from the look at the bumper I'd say the frame would be fine. But like CEJ said, look for cracked paint and chipped paint near welds. I've seen some stuff bend where you can't see how it could of. But most likely the frame is good still. Quote
vitovito240 Posted April 6, 2006 Author Report Posted April 6, 2006 thanks for everyones replys Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I hit a parked car 4th gear pretty well tapped 16/40 gearing with my old j-arm frame, bent the bumper and sheared the bumper bolts. Moved the car 18", it was an early 90's Taurus that had been parked for a good month with maybe 3" of ice and snow on the ground. I got an ambulance ride and an emergency room bill but my frame was fine. I still have my mangled DG bumper in a box somewhere. Quote
