BKOLFO4 Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 (edited) Hi guys (and gals), I just got my first (used) banshee as I posted in the general discussions. It is a 2003 with the following parts: FMF Gold Series Fatty pipes with Toomey Silencers, Toomey 2 into 1 air cleaner setup, White boost bottle, and Pro Designs Cool Head. Other than that, it looks stock. Tonight was the first time I have actually taken it out and ridden it hard for a couple of minutes (after warming it up). I only went for two-three minutes so I could come back and check it over. Glad I did. It ran pretty good, but something is wrong. It was VERY hot! Before I ever rode the machine, I cleaned the carbs. While cleaning, I noted the jet sizing. I now know after reading the jetting FAQ tonight, it has factory jets in the carbs with all those mods!!! So my question: Should I even try to drain coolant and take apart the water pump, or should I work on the jetting before I start messing with the assumption that something is wrong with the cooling system? I am 250 elevation, temp is 60 degrees. With pipes and open aircleaner, should I start with 27.5 pilots and 320 mains? The jetting FAQ has an example that states almost the same setup and 30 pilots and 340 mains. Seems like most of what I am reading here is 27.5 pilots and 310-320 mains for a lot of users. I just put new plugs in, but I am guessing it is not really a good idea to even run the bike with the jetting as it is now. I would like to start closer to correct before I run it anymore and try to read plugs. Thanks! Brian Forgot to add: I am running Yamalube 2-R mixed at 32:1. Edited March 22, 2006 by BKOLFO4 Quote
biggun6ss Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 I would try some 330's for the mains, needle on the 4th clip, and you can try the pilot stock. Play around with your air mixture screw before you change out the pilot. Also check your compression, don't want to get the jetting right then go out and ruin the top end because of some bad rings.
