cexualcensations Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Im in the process of building a 470 cheetah ported powervalve engine. I am wondering if i should run my hinson clutch basket with the stock gear or if i should go ahead and buy the hinson straight gear basket. I have been told since this is a high horsepower engine i should replace it, but i hate to send another 600 bucks on a upgrade that i really dont need. Quote
trex banshee Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 well i can't tell you for sure or not but i have a buddy with a 535 10mill trex drag ported by k&t and he uses a hinson basket with angled gears. Quote
reded Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 The straight cut gearset takes a good deal of load off of the crank and bearing on the clutch side. It is a good investment when building a high hp motor. At least thats what I read and was told, so I got em....prolly just a ploy to get poor mf'ers like me to spend their hard earned cash. Happens a lot in this sport! Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 straight cut gears are not 600 bucks...even if u buy a new basket and gears its not 600 bucks. i use the magnum billet basket with straight cuts..theres less than 600 there im positive...id say go with straight cuts. why spend all that money on the motor just to have all that side pressure on the crank? trouble just waitin to happen... lonestar Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 (edited) Check this guy out over at planet sand web site he goes by the name piranha. He sell's straight cuts( stock ratio only.) His gears come with the bronze bushing already machined on the basket gear. No screwing around pressing out the old bushing. Yamaha dosen't sell just the bushing. You have to buy the complete gear set if screw up the stock bushing. Check this guy out before you buy anything Great guy to deal with. I think I payed 460.00 for both gears. IMO you will need these with that motor. Edited March 17, 2006 by lonestar Quote
FASTOYS Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 straight cuts usually run around $380 or so for both gears !!!? Quote
broke Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Hinson, usually costs around 7% more per letter. 7+7+7+7+7+7, there you have it, 42% more to run their name. Happy buying. Nice stuff, just extremely over priced. Quote
