yamahakid1 Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 on ebay they got a long rod crankshaft i want to buy. it comes with the 795 pistons and all the gaskets and everything needed. i have a mild port and polish if i do the long rod setup will i have to change my porting? Quote
broke Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Not as long as it isn't a stroker. Long rods themselves are just drop in with the right pistons. Long rod strokers are completely different. Quote
Wallrat Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 No you won't. Longrods just increase the reliability of the engine by decreasing the angle of the stroke thereby decreasing the side pressures on the piston skirts. You won't gain a lick of power from the mod if that's what you're thinking. Most guys looking for power go w/ a longrod stroker. The added stroke is what gives you more power. Quote
yamahakid1 Posted March 5, 2006 Author Report Posted March 5, 2006 i understand, but it is a 5mm longer rod is that still jsut a drop in mod Quote
Wallrat Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Yeah its drop in w/ the 795 pistons. The piston pin is located deeper in the 795 piston to accomodate the longer rods. If you don't use the 795's you have to bore it out and run blaster pistons. Quote
yamahakid1 Posted March 5, 2006 Author Report Posted March 5, 2006 i was looknig at my cylinders and noticed a scratch on the left side can it just be honed out? Quote
djackbanshee Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 it could be honed but it will increase the piston cylinder clearance Quote
