Since New Years my banshee has been having problems with the throttle. While riding, my banshee will start to spudder as if no gas is getting into the motor, if I try to press the gas it is stiff and won't move. Usually if I hit the thumb throttle with the palm of my hand it will free itself and work normally, then return again later in the ride. I'm thinking that it might be the throttle cable but I'm not sure. Thanks for the help

Remove the carbs and clean them, do the same with the air box and filter, you can disconect the tors (little box above the left cyl) and replace the cable.

Sticky throttle is nothing to play around with, you can get seriously hurt if it sticks open!

Don't ride it until you get it free'd up.

If the throttle sticks and you have to hit it with the palm of your hand to free it, I would bet you need to replace the cable. It would make since that it sputters if you still have TORS, as the TORS would cut the ignition. If the cable locks up in the sheath, but you let off the thumb throttle the TORS will detect the difference in slide position (still open because cable is hung) and the thumb throttle position (closed now), and it will cut the ignition. You could try lubing the throttle cable, but likely you've past that point and it simply needs to be replaced. I would not suggest disconnecting your TORS yet, as it is probably the reason you have not had a more interesting ride. If you really want to clean up the carb area and electrical, order a TORS removal kit. You'll get a new cable, carb tops and idle screws. Just remember if you do this and the throttle sticks just kill the run switch.

After all of that, if you've already removed the TORS, sounds like you still need to replace the cable, but doesn't really answer the sputtering.

Yeah I'm definetly buying the tors kit. I will clean the carbs, I think that maybe sand may have gotten in and jammed the slides closed, but it never sticks open which makes me wonder if it is the thumb throttle.
