Hi guys. I have a question. First off yes I bought a Clymer manual. My buddy bought a new tusk clutch and installed it fine. However, we are having trouble with adjusting it. At the perch, I have it adjusted all the way in so the cable is all the way in. My primary question is when it is adjusted correctly the clutch should be fully engaged when the two arrows line up? Or should the one on the mechanism go past the one on the case?

I pushed the little arrow in and when he turns the phillips clockwise I can feel it putting pressure against the clutch adjuster mechanism on the case. I know about the lock nut and the phillips screw. We played around with the settings but I wasn't sure what to do. I just want this to work out and make sure he doesn't burn up his clutch due to poor adjustment or waste the $18 for 2 quarts of oil.

Please help me out.

Thanks.

you want the 2 arrows lined up when its free standing. not pulling on it.

i push the little arm and some what get it lined up. then while still holding it, tighten the screw down to where the arrows are pretty close.

then i adjust the free play on the lever.

the first best move was buying a clymers. the arrows should only line up where the clutch begins to disengage. at the free point the push lever arrow will be before the crankcase arrow. there is some freeplay before you actually feel alot of tension if you push on the lever. this is the key step. push the lever till you feel the tension, it pretty much stops, and hold it. then adjust the screw on the clutch to where the arrows line up. when you release it, it will probably be before the crankcase arrow again. after that, readjusting at the perch pretty much brings the push lever in to where the arrows appear to be close to lining up.
