BigRed350x Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 I just picked up a set of 33mm pwk's. I have absolutely no experience with these. I was wondering if some of the keihin guys could give me a good starting point for jetting. These are going to be for my cubs, but I want to test them out on my setup right now. T5's Clamp On K&N Other mods in sig. Ride around 7500ft. I run stock carbs right now with 290 main and 25 pilot, needle on 4th clip. If that helps. What pilot / mains should I start at? I'm going to buy the whole span of jets for when I travel. Thanks guys. Quote
wesw Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 i was watching that auction was going to steal them from you lol not i would go 50-55 pilot, cek needle. 4th/5th clip. 140 mains you might need smaller with that elevation. wow when you get into some air you will think your bike will be turbocharged.lol Quote

If you stole them I would kick your ass. I lost two other damn auctions for some 33's last month. Missed them by like $2 because I slept in. I wasn't going to lose these. I can't wait to ride down at lower elevations. My normal riding is no lower than 7000ft. Sea level would blow my mind. We have to run 18 or 17cc domes to get up to 150psi compression. It sucks. You can run 91 octane gas with 17cc domes up here. Pretty funny. Thanks for the jetting help, I will start in there. Probably one or two higher just to be safe. Quote
locogato11283 Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 here at 1000 feet above sea level we run 162 mains, 45 pilots in both 33mm and 35mm pwk. thats on me and my bros bike. i have no experience with that high of an elevation..7000 feet is a long way up. Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 16, 2006 Author Report Posted January 16, 2006 Sounds like I will start with a 50 pilot and like a 165 main and work from there. Time to go get some plugs! Chop Chop Chop! Quote

From my searching it sounds like there are a bunch of different needles out there. Which ones are better for what kinda stuff, or is it just personal pref? Quote
wesw Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 for your elevation cek or cel would word good. Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 16, 2006 Author Report Posted January 16, 2006 Is there a freaking manual somewhere for what those needles do? I was on magic and there are like a bazillion different needles for those carbs. Quote
wesw Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 sudco.com but trust me it took a while for me to figure out what was good. lot of reading cek, cel are very popular choice. i have a cgl needle set you can try out if you want. it really hard to explain on here what the letters mean and stuff Quote
icecold_shee Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 hey, i just picked up a 2in1 setup with a 35mm pwk, how do you get the needle out to see what one u have and adjust the clip Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 16, 2006 Author Report Posted January 16, 2006 Aw come on, this isn't hard to understand... Quote

FIRST BANSHEE Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 duncan racing has an awesome tech sheet for keiihen carbs. easy to use Quote
Banchetta Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Start w/ 162 mains, 42-45pilot, needle 2nd-3rd clip. I found the DEK needles to pull better low rpms then the CEK needles.....the first letter is the taper of the needle, D being the richer one.....the middle letter is the height of the needle..so if your on the 5th clip, you can get a different needle to move the clip back to the 3rd clip....EX:.....A CEK on the 3rd clip is the same as the CGK on the 5th clip...the last letter is for needle diameter. This makes minimal changes in throttle response, don't bother, unless your looking for that very minimal difference...good luck, keihin carbs have a lot of overlap, so one circuit will affect the other...a lot of combos, so be patient... sredish Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) I agree with Banchetta's needle statement. I don't believe CEK's belong on these machines with a stock port... Here's my suggestion, uneducated probably, but here it is anyways. Stock ports DEK for smaller twin carbs and EEK for single carb application. Porting (more than a cleanup) DEK for the twins and single. I just don't think the CEK lets enough fuel through. Edited January 21, 2006 by sredish Quote
