any smarties out there?

I have a Nvidia ge force 6600gt - 128 ram on it

anyways, I can use computer fine, but when I play newer games (counter striek: Source, Battlefield 2, or Call of Duty 2, I can play fine for a little bit, then the monitor will just blink, and say "signal lost". Sound is still ther ethough

something happens in Battlefield 1942 as well, as time progresses, the "view" gets worse. If I restar my computer, everything checks out fine, and I can play as normal

I have a 2.5 gig computer, with 1 gig of ram, anly 2 years old or so

any ideas?

check to see that the fan on the card isn't clogged with dirt (overheat)

BF2 requires a lot of resources to play smooth. I'd say if you want to keep playing the "new" games it's time to upgrade that card.

RADEON 9800 XT Video Card 256MB is a good card that should be "usable" for a while and not kill the wallet. I hate Nvidia personaly, their support with the games like BF2 sucks. But I think it's because Ati is paying for it to be like that.

I can't even play BF2 for the same reason. The last update made the "older" cards have problems or like mine not work.

could be an overheat prob, and also check your vid drivers (very important) and your sound card drivers. those things can really make ur puter go nuts.

BF2 is like the biggest fuckup EA ever made. i had alot of trouble runnin it for a while and im WAY above spec on my pc.

im runnin an Alien ware Area 51 3.8ghz, 2 meg ram, gforce 6800ultra (256meg) vid, sound blaster 2 autiougy (sp), after market cooling system. and i was havin game crashes like a fuck on my computer. but till i got it workin i went thru about 5 or 6 different sets of vid drivers, and uninstall reinstall the game about 20 times and messed with vid settings and stuff and i finally got it to work. as for any other games out there i have no trouble runnin them on highest vid settings resolution 1024x768 4x antialiasing and 16x anistropic filtering. BF2 is a FUCK to get it to work right. some ppl it didnt give any trouble to and some it did. sry for kinda rambling hahaha.

but yeh check make sure u have enough air flow thru ur case, if need be take the side off and put a fan on it. and try updating your sound and vid drivers. do the vid ones first cause that is the most important. here is a link to a bunch of different drivers www.guru3d.com and they have alot of other cool utilities there also.

LMAO

I have to agree with most, I think the issue is very likely a heat problem....which would make sense why it works fine when you boot it up and after a while of playing, it starts acting up. When you screen blinks, it could be very possible that the card is shutting down to prevent it from melting (a lot of electronics have the "self-protect"). Not certain, just an educated guess :shrugani:

I don't think it would be the drivers, simply because I don't think it would work well at all if the wrong drivers were installed or they were somehow corrupted.

Try adding a few fans to your PC case and see if that helps....they're only a few bucks and about 10-15 minutes to install.

Computers will do some very wierd shit when they get hot!!!!

could be heating, drivers, or your power supply in your PC. I forget how much power those video cards require, but it's a substantial amount.

I'd check out what your power supply is rated at, try downloading the latest version of direct x, then go to nvidia's website and grab their latest drivers (not the manufacturer of your card), possibly throw a fan on your case or get one of those squirrel cage fan's that take up a PCI slot and put it right next to your video card.

Maybe your video card is overheating?

Im agreeing with everyone else, but if everything checks out clean and working you could always try and put in another case fan if you have room. Maybe you should invest in a liquid cooling system

thanks for the replies

(by the way, married life is great!)

I have already tried cleaning the insdie of the case, not much dust buoldup...

I also tried running without the side cover on - no change

thats why I posted here...

Battlefield 1942 really makes me mad, because if you restart and play, its fine

BUT if I had my comp on all day then play, whenever I get in a tank, its really hard to see (blakc lines go across my view)

but If I immediately restart my computer and load the game, the game works 100% fine for as long as I want to play

I was thinking that it could possibly be a video card memory issue, and by restaring it clear the memory on my card....

really, I have no idea

From the sound of that it sounds like a memory issue. Is there a program your running that is a memory hog. I have a simular issue, if I run multisim I have to restart to play games. Multisim loads up the memory and doesn't dump it after I x it out. So there is not a lot of resourses for the game to use. And bf 1942 and bf 2 are high memory needing games. Sorry but it's hard to help with out driving it.
