Banchetta Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 I'm running stock needles and can move the clip up 1 more and will be at the top. I dropped the main to a 300 and it improved. The main problem is between idle and getting into the power band. Once in the power band it runs well. If I pull the choke out halfway it runs worse. 448319[/snapback] Have you tried the needle in the first clip??? Problem lies between idle and powerband...but what are the symptoms before the powerband...hesitating or does it spit and sputter, shake and shutter...Are you at half throttle when your trying to hit powerband or are you holding it wide open until powerband kicks in?? I need to know this... Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 I can go up one more clip on the needle. It seems like a hesitation and not spit and sputter. If I pull the clutch to try and rev up for a launch it will not rev up, I used to be able to rev all the way up until if I held it it would keep building. It is hard to explain, this is my first time trying to get jetting dialed in. The problem is mostly when at half throttle. Quote
Banchetta Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Your not too rich, your too lean...Raise your needles by lowering the clip...try the clip on the 4th notch from the blunt end. If that helps a lot, then try the 5th clip and see if it pulls even harder....Hesitation before powerband or prolong bog before powerband is a lean needle.. Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 17, 2005 Author Report Posted December 17, 2005 Thanks, I will try that and give an update on the results. Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 18, 2005 Author Report Posted December 18, 2005 I moved my needle clip down to the 4th from the top and it runs worse after idle up to top end. Quote
Banchetta Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Did you make sure your slides aren't backwards? Cutaway facing the air box? Choke tube is in place. Something doesn't sound right.. Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 19, 2005 Author Report Posted December 19, 2005 You hit the nail on the head banchetta, I had the slides in backwards so they were in the wrong carbs. Thanks for all the help. Quote
Banchetta Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 I think you'll find that the pilots will be lower than a 32.5 and that the needles will like to be a lot richer...I'd go back to the 30's or less... Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 20, 2005 Author Report Posted December 20, 2005 I might try to drop back to the 30 on pilots but it cranks and idles real well now. I'm gonna throw a new set of plugs in and see how they look. I can't beleive how easy it is to reverse the slides and it still run, should have checked the clymers manual but just overlooked it. Banchetta Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 you might find that the shee will start right up w/ a larger pilot, but once the motor is warmed up, it'll tend to flood out and you'll be revving it up all the time to clean it out. Your throttle response will start to get sluggish also. Quote
corkforbrains Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Might I ask, how did you figger out the slides were in wrong? I mean, aside from the cutout facing the airbox, aren't both slides identical? Just tryin to learn something...thanx! * Banchetta...it was a pleasure watchin this get sorted...you really know your stuff.. Quote
banshee tuner Posted December 27, 2005 Author Report Posted December 27, 2005 The slides have a groove in one side and will only sit all the way down turned one way, if you have them in the right carbs the cutout faces the airbox. If they are in the wrong carbs and sit all the way down the cutout will face the front. Quote

Once you have a problem w/ your shee and it takes hours and days to figure it out, you remember it!!! I didn't have the HQ to help me then, so I learned everything w/ hands on..blew up a few motors, but thats the cost of learning....I also like to get every ounce of power out of my motors, so I do a lot of jetting, dynoing, field testing, etc...There isn't too many symptons that I don't know, most problem w/ helping on this site is the way people explain the problems....but I don't mind. I like to help others. That is why most of my post are in the jetting and repairs forums....I don't care about the talk, just the motor. In return, I have learned other things on this site as well that I never had to deal w/...good thing..lol Quote
