Im currently running the Toomey jet kit which consits of a stock pilot and an aftermarket needle. The main jet is 280. I just recieved my cylinders back from Eric Gorr and he did what some would consider a dune port. Its a port job that enphasizes more on the mid and top end. I will be running stock carbs till i can afford new ones. What size mains would anyone suggest i run at sea level. Im still running the stock air box with a uni 2 stage filter and toomey t-5 pipes.

The needle now is on the 4th clip down i believe. Anyone have any ideas where to start and maybe some tuning tip help. What assortment would you guys suggest I buy beings I know im going to have to toy with things some. Thanks alot

you might try a 27.5 pilot, 4th or 5th clip and with no lid you should be at 340 at 1000 ft if your higher you might have to go down 320-340 should be close.

goign to have to do some testing and tuning, reading plugs.

but thats start

I would get 310, 320, 330, 340 main sizes, some dealers dont typically stock sizes much bigger than 320.

my 01 is ported, runs SST pipes, K & N pods on stock carbs, 290 mains with 27.5 pilots.

Man I figured you would be bigger than that. But I know you know (from other posts you've made) Toomey's seem to like bigger main jets. On the stock box, with lid and snorkel I would put you around 320-330. I run 340's at sea level, unported, but with no airbox. Dynojet needle (comes with Toomey pipe kits) in the fourth clip, 27.5 pilot.

your needle seems rich...but anywho... i had a mild port with lid on pc pipes stock carbs ran a 27.5 pilot needle 4th clip (stock needle) 340 mains... i say up the pilot.. lean the needle and up the mains to a 340 and run it WOT . see if it bogs or doesnt feel like its pulling no more... :shrugani:

I have moved up to a 27.5 pilot because the bike wouldnt idle for crap with the stock 25's in it. Currently running 340 mains and the bike has a miss at high rpm. It seems to cut out once its reved up in the top end. I havent done a plug chop yet or any kind of testing on the carburetors. Im thinking if its cutting out though its probley not gettin enough fuel would this be right?

So move on up to a 360 main then. I'll try to pick up some 360 jets tomorrow and see how it goes. Is it possible that I need to up to a 30 pilot jet. How can I tell If my pilot is too small still. It sure runs better and idles better going from a 25 pilot to a 27.5 pilot. Also what indicates if I need to adjust my needles. Im pretty new to all this and even when reading the articles I know alot of guys here have to have some good input and experiences to offer. Right now Im running the needles that come with the toomey pipe kit and there on the 4th click down from the top I believe. Do i possibly need to richen up the needle also. Thanks alot guys.

The pilots won't control sputtering at wot...but if your the type to look for more, then try a set of 30's. It'll either like it or hate it. You've already seen the gains going from the 25's to the 27.5's, so you know what to look and feel for...As for the mains. I'd try the 360's just to eliminate the sputtering problem if that is what it is..If it doesn't solve the problem, then I'd start looking into electrical...I'd also do a plug test at wot in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds and pull the plugs. See if your rich or lean...As for the needles, those are just trial and error. I'd try the 5th clip and see what happens. The needles (depending on pipes) can make substantial gains on the low end and pull...your shee will either like it or hate, you WILL feel the difference. Find the sweet spot. If your shee doesn't like the 5th clip then try the 3rd....Modifications are great, but if your jetting suffers, then you won't gain as much as you should. Play around w/ it, you'll see, if you run into problems, we are here!!!!
