ogre03 Posted October 16, 2005 Report Posted October 16, 2005 If I shave 0.030 off my head, what octain do I need to run. From what I've read on here, I don't need race fuel, however my gas sucks. I'm in Alaska and the best gas on a regular pump is 90 octane. Will I be asking for detonation? Quote
rocketboy Posted October 16, 2005 Report Posted October 16, 2005 you should be okay IMO just dont run alot of advancemet on your ignition timing , and always run the 90 octane atleast with a good synthetic premix. Quote
strokersquid Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 i have an rz street bike with a .030 shaved head and i run 85 oc tane without any problems for years i live at 500 ft and ride up to 2500 ft and im hauling. i run the oil pump and premix 1/2 cc/gal but i use synthetic blend marine oil (penzoil) and no problemo Quote
ogre03 Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 thanks for the help. I think I'll drop it off today. he guy already has my cylinders, (bore/hone) he might as well have my head too. .030 sound about right? Quote
Capone Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 Look @ your elevation for where you'll be riding most the time, you may be able to cut more off without any problems to get a little extra power. Quote
ogre03 Posted October 18, 2005 Author Report Posted October 18, 2005 I just thought of something... Is there a way to tell if the head has already been milled? I bought the bike used and you never know, I'd hate to do it again and ruin the head. I know checking the compression will tell me. But my jugs are already at the shop. Aside from waiting till it's all back together, is there another way? Quote
ogre03 Posted October 18, 2005 Author Report Posted October 18, 2005 Another question regarding octane. Is it a bad idea to mix octane boos in your fuel? Quote
biggun6ss Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 I shaved my head .030 at a local machine shop. I bought a timing plate and advanced it +4. I run 90 octane with Klots synthetic at 32-1. I really can't tell a difference in power though. Is the +4 too much or does the +4 not add enough power to really notice? Quote
