Johnny Dirt Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 8 hours on 2005 Banshee. Completely stock. Out of warranty. Can hear gear whine on decell only, any gear. Has done this since day one. 1st oil change at 5 hours, noticed little brass particles in oil. Thought that was normal. Second oil change at 8 hours. More brass particles and some shavings. Dealer wants to charge me to look at it. IS THIS NORMAL FOR A NEW MACHINE? Runs and shifts great. Any input or ideas would be helpful. Quote
iceman Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 did you break it in properly? if you didnt let everything set and get lubricated you could have busted something up inside there. Quote
ozosborne Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 My '05 does it as well. Sounds to be mainly on slowing down. I'm changing oil this week end. Hope there's no particles. Either way I will let you know! Quote
Johnny Dirt Posted October 10, 2005 Author Report Posted October 10, 2005 Machine was broke in properly. Went through two tanks of gas before I started to get on it. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 It's common to see some shavings on the first few changes. Parts start to wear in and you'll see a few shavings when you drain the oil. As long as there are no chunks of anything in there and your banshee seems to be running well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're on your 4th or 5th oil change (depending on how often you change it) and you're still seeing a lot of shavings then you "might" want to check it out. A few shavings here and there is nothing to worry about though. Quote

Johnny Dirt Posted October 12, 2005 Author Report Posted October 12, 2005 Live in Washington State, 1 hour North of Seattle. Talking with some other people, off line, sounds like this may be a normal condition. Someone told me the brass I am seeing is coming from the clutch material. ? Quote
Fireman-hott Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 Yep probably clutch material. that oil gets dirty REAL quick. Should see mine after only an hour of trail riding on the cub. Quote
