trail rider Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 so me and my two brothers pulled the head and cylinders on the shee. everything looked good, except for a lil play in the top bearing/piston/wristpin. how do you tell what size rings to get? the guy who had the shee before us said it was bored over.(forgot what size 0.20 or 0.30 over) should there be a mark like std for standard size, or anything?. cleaned up the cylinders, head, pistons and made them look all pretty. anything else you all reccomend doing while we wait for parts to arrive? also, since we cleaned them up....we decieded to paint the head and cylinders. ford blue head, and chevy orange jugs. it looks f'in awsome! trail rider Posted September 30, 2005 Author Report Posted September 30, 2005 why shouldnt the paint last? the orange i used on a motor block, so far so good. the blue i used on a 47cc weedeater type cylinder, so far so good. their both heat reistant pretty good. this isnt my first time around the block with painting... trail rider Posted September 30, 2005 Author Report Posted September 30, 2005 Besides the paint used is engine paint, its made to with stand 500 degrees. Quote
87sheerips Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 The paint should be fine I havent had any probs with engine paint on my head/cylinders. Quote
fast87 Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 you should have masked off ALL open areas into the cylinder before painting....with that said i hope there is no paint on the cylinder walls and you at least accurately measured the bore with a vernier caliper at the minimum..and converted to millimeters so you know what size cylinders you're dealing with...also read us exactly what the top of the piston says, 64mm is stock, 64.50mm is .020" over, and so on....the alst few numbers on the top of the piston should be something like that, good luck ~Mark~ Quote
trail rider Posted September 30, 2005 Author Report Posted September 30, 2005 well we had a old pair of intake boots, and we used the head gasket and a piece of paper to cover it up. there is no paint on the cylinders im sure of it. the pistons are almost tight to the walls, besides though they arent supposed to be super tight right? thats where the rings come into play. i'll have to check the tops of the pistons again to find the numbers.
