banshee x Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 i just put a 4 mil cub together w/noss head custom 21 cc domes,v-force 3 the cub has been drag ported,35mm air strykers with a boss intake, for some reason it kept missing on the left side at idle, you could see r/s silencer smokin and l/s only once in a while untill you rev up the engine,i cant seem to have any luck with the jetting yet still working on that ive put a 42 pilot in the l/s plug is wet but you can still see the white color on the porcalin of the spark plug,r/s plug is dark black almost like fouled but still is working, swapped plugs after a few revs then let it idle plugs come with same read, tried new plugs same! if you spray carb cleaner near intake the bike just dies, took of intake and cleaned gaskets and re installed ,a little better but plugs still look the same,so i swapped carbs and now both sides run equal is that WIERD or is it just me i would think the r/s would or should have a problem now. i want to get this thing jetted right but dont want to blow it up(too lean)i just put a 165 main in the carbs and did a plug chop you can feel the engine is real hot and not just the porcalin but the top area around the plug where the threads stop is white do you think i still have an air leak if you spray cleaner near base of cylinder/bottom of intake still dies if it were an air leak shouldn't the engine rev???..........please help!!!!! Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 You need to get that air leak sorted BEFORE you do any more WOT plug chops. ... If you've made idle adjustments with the air leak there, then spraying your cleaner around the leak will kill the motor as if you'd pulled the choke on. When you're on full throttle it's your mains that are working and you're pulling in more air through the leak and leaning out. ... Fix the air leak! Did you re-torque the cylinder base nuts after heat cycleing/ break in? Rare. Quote
banshee x Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 yeah i re-tightened them the cub cylinder gives you no room to re-tourque using a tourque wrench so i did the best i could. Quote
Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Are you having to use spacers with that carb set up? If so, I assume you've got the extra gaskets fitted. You could try covering all the mating surface edges in that area with baby powder to find where the leak is. (With the engine running you'll see clear spots at the leaks). ... If it turns out to be the intake gaskets you could use some form of sealer on them. Rare. Quote
wesw Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 first off you have to fix the air leak take itall apart the intake and make sure it seals good. if you dont your screwing up the motor and everything else put it back to get and test it with starter fiuld again. then what elevation you at. what needles you have in those carbs. i can get you some what close i would say. 165 main is most like way to rich but will be solved later Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 whats ur jetting? i have a cub motor with 35mm pwk and im at 162 mains, 45 pilot. i think its a little rich because its so hot. im at 1000ft. Quote
banshee x Posted July 25, 2005 Author Report Posted July 25, 2005 3000 ft elevation,no reed spacer its a mono block intake i've had it apart o-ring in good shape and gaskets are all new,i guess i just need to tighten the cylinder base nuts down and see if that helps, its just pissin me off i havent really ridden my bike in 3 months i'm goin on a month havin this engine together and cannot find this leak, had carbs off several times intake, and carb boots but not fixed yet wesw ive got whatever air strykers come with for needles on third clip haven't moved those yet,165 mains and down to 42 pilot, when i start my bike i do not need any choke fires up first kick,so i pretty sure i need to lean the pilot some more it just sounds really low to me from seeing some of your jetting, but i guess every bike is different i'm about ready to drive 100 miles and have someone do it for me,but i always seem to get screwed into something i dont need and could have done my self!!!! banshee x Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 ok i tightened the cylinder base nuts and the engine no longer dies, but it does loose enough rpms to notice when spraying carb cleaner around the base of the cylinder ,so i did some plug chops w/ a 165 main i'm starting to get just a little color on the bottom of the porcalin,my shop in town did not have a 170 so i had to get some 180's not much of a difference on plug color! i guess this weekend im going to take the cylinder off and put some gasket sealer on both sides of the cylinder base gasket any objections to that????/ Quote

Rare. 398419[/snapback] really you can do anything with out your cylinders being secured to the block adn not leaking. you have way to many problems to be worrieda bout jetting right now. banshee x Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 And I thought that was good advice. after i tightened the base nuts the first time the engine was cold after starting the engine and letting it warm up i sprayed carb cleaner around the base of the cylinder and it seemed like it was sealed up so i did a plug chop and the plugs had some color so i thought i was taken care of(leak) after putting in some 180 mains and doin a plug chop, when the plugs looked the same i checked again for a leak and it seemed like it was back, AFTER HEARING FROM U GUYS NOT TO DO ANY MORE WOT PLUG CHOPS THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS THROW 3 GRAND AWAY AND THE TIME I HAVE INVESTED IN THIS BASNSHEE......i would not have done any more plug chops if i new there was a leak Quote
