2004LEBanshee Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I recently noticed that my +4 durablue axle has a little play at the swing arm. (like Up and down when the weight is off the bike). I have tightened the axle bolt as tight as I can get it. I was wondering if it could be from bad bearings. Could the incident that caused the stock axle to bend be the cause of this (catching a tree trunk with tire) ? Is this a common problem for a 2 year banshee, axle slop? Oh and I do ride kinda hard. Maybe this is the cause for premature wear? And finally could the increase in axle length be the cause for wear from the increase torque of the axle on rough landings. IF I need new bearings whats a good kind to get? Thanks, Jason Quote

Riding through nasty conditions will wear the bearings out a lot faster than normal. I would go ahead and change them out before they get really bad and possibly seize...I've had it happen, not fun! sheefreak Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Do you have the locknut from durablue, or are you using the stock setup? If you have the aftermarket axlenut, it is actually like unscrewing it to tighten it, if that makes any sense to you. But if you have up and down play, then you probably have bad bearings. All Balls makes good bearings. Just about anything you can get will be ok oin my experience. Quote
Shee-Male Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Your gonna need to change your bearings, when you do dill a hole and thread it for a small bolt, then drill another hole and install a grease zerk, take the seal off the inside of the bearing, install them and pump the carrier full of grease. They'll last much longer this way! This is BenBB's set up, the man is pure genius!! Quote

It doubled the life of my bearings just being able to keep fresh grease in there Quote
