MDS2106 Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 now i have stock gearing and 20" tall tires ,i thought about trying my sons blaster rims with 18" tall tires to see how i like the gearing change.instead of puting a 13 tooth sprocket, does anyone know which will be lower geared 18" tires or 13 tooth sprocket,i am just tring to get an idea of the lower gearing thanks Mark Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 i didnt think blaster rims would fit on a banshee. arent they 8 inch rims? could be wrong tho. the 13 tooth i would think would be lower. are they a true 18 inch tall tire? some tires arent even what they measure. im sure the difference would be more noted with the 13 tooth. MDS2106 Posted May 6, 2005 Author Report Posted May 6, 2005 you are correct the rims will not fit, but the blaster hubs will so i'll transfer hubs and all, the tires are 18'' holeshots so the are quite abit shorter than my kenda klaws,i will run the smaller tires first to see how i like the shorter gearing, i have a feeling i will have to shift quite a bit more than i do now, Quote
BURKE_DADDY Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 heres a gear and tire calculator i found http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/trx450r.htm Quote
crbanshee Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 i went to a 13 front sprocket and i got a bit more low end but over all i was not happy with the change..i was pulling hills a bit better but it wasnt enough to make a difference worth the cost of a new sprocket..i lost about 7-8 mph an the top end and my lower gears were worthless (1-3) HOW EVER going with a 15/39 set up with the FMF fatty pipe that is a good set up for me..i got more top end more low end and my gears are working better i get more pull out of all 6 gears...but all in all its going to depend on the terrain you ride. i ride the southern california deserts.95% sand dunes and 5% hard pack..the pipes realy made the differance in the low end ant the gearing helped the top..the FMF gnarley pipes will give you insane low end (for a banshee) but like i said its all about where you ride...i would recomend staying with a taller tire and playing with your sprockets to find a set up you like for your local riding areas..
