Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 whats a good indication that a coil has gone bad? 354138[/snapback] Bike won't run on account of no spark. . But I'm guessing that your bike isn't running and you want to find out if it's the coil. ... If you've got a multimeter, do the resistance checks or substitute it with one that you know works. Rare. gatesy Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 I have just found that my coil went bad on me, but only one of the leads does not fire. It works fine for about 5 minutes then is starts to pop on the left hand cyclinder. So i swaped the leads over and then it started to pop on the right cyclinder. So to cut a long story short I found that if the right hand lead sparked at all it was only a weak spark. But I am only guessing that this is a coil problem, I may be wrong Quote
BenBB Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 A high-speed miss is a symptom of a failing coil, besides the aforementioned not sparkin' or bad leads... Quote
Proquad101 Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 A coil that is going bad will work good until it starts getting hot then it will start to break down and not work . A good indication is the bike will rev good when it's not in gear and run like crap when you are putting a load on the motor. Also have you ever changed your spark plug caps, I have had caps that made my bike run like the coil was going bad. Quote
