Capone Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 The coil is underneath the right fender, little black box that the spark plug wires run from. Check that & all connections... I someone else said I too have had the wire fall off, and unlike them it took me an hour to figure out something so simple and stupid... lol. If the stator is working, can't ya turn on your lights and kick fast, wont there be a lil light? Never tried it with my shee, but might be worth a try. Take the left side case off, have a look around. Any questions keep to the trusty BHQ boards. Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted March 8, 2005 Author Report Posted March 8, 2005 ok ill forsure check the coil tomorrow. should i be able to see if a wire is missing or broke pretty easily? i was seeing if all the litle connecter things were all in tacked but thats all i checked. oh well i guess well just ahve to wait and see Quote
Meat Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 ya i just got back. i checked for spark but i couldnt see anything. Your 100% sure your not sparking ?? Please check again for spark. If the stator is working, can't ya turn on your lights and kick fast, wont there be a lil light? Ah the stator has two seperate functions, one is for the ignition system, the other funtion is to provide power for the lights. The ignition function of the stator can go bad while the lighting funtion might still work. So you can kick the motor over with a bad stator and the headlights will still flicker on. Ya know how the stator has those arms, well half the arms power the ignition, while the othe half of the arms power the lighting system. Check the coil wires first. And if you wanna dig some more... take off the side cover on the shift lever side of the motor. You will find the flywheel under this cover. While looking at the flywheel you'll see a small black box called the "pickup coil". Its held to the "stator plate" with two small screws. check to see if the little pickup coil box is still attached properly. If your coil wires are attached, im thinkin' the stator mighta took a dump on ya again. Quote

I had it happen this last summer at the dunes. Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Tell us what you find out from your mechanic. Quote
Capone Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Be sure you check for spark, if you dunno how to do this, then take out one plug and hold it in your hand while you or a buddy kick it. You'll feel if there is any spark. If so, then its time to start looking somewhere else. Quote
y2kbanshee9187 Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Dont take the damn thing in and waste your money again. Quote
Meat Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Dont take the damn thing in and waste your money again. 336512[/snapback] Agreed. You can buy a used stator on Ebay for under a hundred bucks and they're VERY easy to install.......... altho I got the feeling you'll never get the flywheel off by yourself Quote
