LeChicharon Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 I bought a 1981 XR80 from a garage sale for $20.00. Now only problem, it doesn't run. No compression. Now if I set the valves, re-ring, and hone the cylinder, will I be able to have enough compression to where the bike runs? Quote
ssanddemon Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Maybe. Or not. It may be nothing but a pile of parts. Or it may just have a stuck valve. Or? Quote
racer Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 like zero compression? or very little? id try valve adjustment first, its easy to do. from there on id go to a new top end. Quote
SuperChris Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 20 dollars? I wish I could find deals like that. XR80 is a classic. I'd love to have one for my little nephew. A piston kit for that bike is cheap. If you have a four stroke wore out to the point that it has no compression, then it either has a hole in the piston, or has a LOT of miles on it and will most likely need bored anyway. But then again what do I know. Quote
