plastic piece around jet

small question..........what is the piece of plastic that goes around the

jet in the carbs..........i lost one while jetting and wondering what the function

of this thing is and if i need them?

Is it a white piece? If it is what I am thinking of, I believe it is just a splash guard.

That is what it is... I don't know how critical it is to your carb functioning properly though...I've always put it back in

I've ran them w/o, and it won't hurt anything, but if you ride some really rough terrain, it prevents air bubbles from getting into the jets and running lean...so I'd buy another one for motor sake.
