sredish Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 On another board, they were discussing some wheels and the pic below was shown. Somone questioned the tire and he said, and I quote, "Those are Othsu Pro Comps, they where the tire to run in the late 80's and early 90's. To this day they are one of the best turning front tires on the market but they do tend to get side wall cuts." Anyone ever hear of these and maybe even ran them? I'm wondering if they're that good. I hate hearing how good something is, because it makes me wanna buy it. Scott Quote
ledofthezep Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Never heard of them myself...look pretty pimp though. I bet they do hook good. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Same here, never heard of them but I'll see what I can find out Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Ohtsu Tires <---- Link This was all I could find that seemed worthwhile looking at...I was checking out their selection of tires and they don't seem like anything extraordinary, most tread patterns looked pretty familiar....nothing I would rush out and buy without hearing more from people who have ridden on them Quote
sredish Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 Thanks bigboy. I was on that site this morning and couldn't find the Pro Comp (PC101 model) on their site. Quadzone has a lot of XC racers and that's where I heard them mention it. Some of these guys are GNCC pro racers and have been around awhile. I just got curious when I heard the one mentioning it. I found them for around $57 a tire at one site, but couldn't find them anywhere else. I may have to order a set to try, we'll see. Quote
JARE77 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I have always found Ohtsu tires very easy to punture or rip the sidewall. They work well but never stood up to much abuse. As for those tires they look a little more rugged on the sidewalls ,They may be worth checking out. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 I believe a bunch of *cough* Honda *cough* ATV's come equipped with Ohtsu tires, I know the 400EX did, not sure if this is much help....and I can't believe I'm suggesting this, but - perhaps a Honda oriented site may have some more information? Good luck. OH, I like the choice of wheel pictured above Quote

Good luck. OH, I like the choice of wheel pictured above 312633[/snapback] That wheel is a 4/1 custom Yamaha pattern Hiper. I don't know if they make a 4/1 Yammi Hiper now, but at that time (9-23-04), they did not. Here's a quote of what "Laz" from GT Thunder did : I took apart a set of 4/1 Honda Hipers, machined the center for 4/156, machined the hubs on the YFZ450, hand cut the outer carbon half - and now we have 4/1 Hipers for Brandons YFZ. 6 Hours later. Yea, Honda's come stock with Ohtus. So do some Bombardiers. And, of all the people, I can't believe YOU would direct me to a Honda site.... pshhh... Quote
SICK BOY Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 (edited) I use to work at a garage on tractor trailers, and we sold tires. We got a set of 8 Ohtsu drive tires for this truck and they sucked. They were very thin, and they wore terrible.Maybe the atv tires are better.
