The little black pick up thing on the stator has rust and the flywheel is covered in rust. the stator plate is corroded as hell too. My bike is an 03, should I replace thees parts? Could I get by with just a new stator and plate and keep my rusty flywheel? It looks terrible, I cant believe it runs. ps. is the ricky stator kit that cost $255 (flywheel, stator, plate) worth it? ledofthezep Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 If shee was running ok, you should be fine just cleaning up the rust a bit & just make sure that you use some sort of sealant between the case & cover when you put your stator cover back on. Quote

Can I use yamabond along with that rubber thing? When I pulled the cover off there was a water pool in the bottom of the cover so I know it leaks. I try to avoid water but sometimes I cant. Quote

How about drilling a "drain hole" in the lowest point of the cover? 312021[/snapback] I wouldn't...seems that would defeat the purpose of sealing it, a hole would let in moisture & oxygen...even if it would drain, there would still be moisture & oxygen...thus hardcore rust. compose2 Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 i had the same problem with my flywheel rusting. what i did was bead blasted the flywheel at my work which cleaned it up real nice. next i sprayed a rust inhibitor on it which gave it a light waxy coating. then just sanded the pickups on it and its fine. i rode in the snow 3 or 4 times and when i took the cover off last weekend, the flywheel looks the same as the day i bead blasted it Quote

Nighty Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 Mine was rusted aswell! really really really bad, couldnt believe it still ran! Make sure the drain hole UNDER your carbs is open! if its blocked water will not drain and a pool will form on your engine. the water will then go trough the stator cable into your stator cover. Thats what happend to me. I got the ricky stuff at the time: adjustable timing plate 200w stator new flywheel 45W headlights (for the stock lights) works fine. Quote
