sjgYFZ200 Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 oh man, i f*cked it up this time...wel i did my axle bearings the other day, and the axle just wasnt coming out with wood and a hammer, the wood kept splitting and going right aorund the axle cause it was too soft. so i put the nut back on the axle, and put a socked arond the nut and just started wacking that. the axle came out allright, but not before i mashed up all the threads on the axle, and actully bent the small little "shaft" where the threads are. so i figured id take the other nut off, and maybe threading that on would re-cut the threads on the chewed up side. well, with my luck, the cotter pin absouluty would not come out. so, after trying everything to get the pin out, i just went ahead and cut it down far, and just torqued that nut off. yeah the nut eventully came off, taking off all the theads on that side too. reading this you may be like what an idiot that kid is, but i really do know what im doing, i was working with my friends dad whose a supervisor at mercedes benz service department. haha were not idiots, just some people with bad luck...but back to the axle, can it be saved? im going to bring it into school tommrrow and see if my metals teacher can salvage it. if it cant be saved, whats a good axle to get as a replacement and how much $ is it?
