2004LEBanshee Posted October 1, 2004 Author Report Posted October 1, 2004 Thanks for the help I'll let you know what happened. Thanks again, Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 2, 2004 Author Report Posted October 2, 2004 (edited) Well Decided to take the carbs apart to move the needle clips to the 5th postion from the blunt end. This is when I relized how stupid I could be. I took the first carb apart and it was at the second position from the blunt end. and the second carb was at the 4th positon from the blunt end. So I put them both to the 4th postion and it pulls like mad now. What really pisses me off is I last changed the clips in april. I rode all summer like this. I am temped to put them both to the 5th position but maybe later. Edited October 2, 2004 by 2004LEBanshee Quote
Banchetta Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 I wouldn't even think about trying the 5th. I know several quads in my area that like the 5th clip and pull harder than the 4th...Glad to hear you found the problem though.... Quote
sredish Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) Glad you found it. Funny how stupid we can be. I put my new needle in the other day. Backed the quad out of the shop and fired her up. She wound up like she was lean, or runnin out of fuel, you know how shee can do that. I checked that the petcock was on, yes it was. Checked that the inline filter had fuel in it, yep full. So, I'm like WTF now! Well, I pull a plug and look to see for the hell of it. Put it back in, now only one's firing. DAMN!! What is happening to my machine. So, i'm pissed. I get in there, and discover that I forgot to tighten the intake boot on the motor side of the carb after I had swapped out the main jet. Lean problem fixed. Still runnin on one cylinder. Shit, I forgot to put the plug boot back on after I checked it. Shit happens, glad you get her figured. I can run mine on the 5th clip in winter, but not in summer. She likeys the fuely. Edited October 3, 2004 by sredish Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 3, 2004 Author Report Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) Glad to see others have brain farts too. To think that I changed main jets, and plugs all summer wondering why it just wasn't as snappy. It was wierd it wasn't boggy enough to make me think there was a real jetting problem but it just wasn't how I thought should be. Thanks for all the help. I'll leave it in the 4th for now but do you think I should try a bigger pilot ( at least for the winter) I ride all year long, 3 degress what ever it don't phase me. sredish Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) Needles don't cost very much, but you don't want to just buy a bigger needle, in fact you don't buy a bigger needle. You buy a needle with certain characteristics to "assist" certain parts of the ciruit. For instance, I needed more fuel in the 3/4 to Full throttle I needed the transition to come on sooner and I did NOT want to affect the other circuits, so I got a needle with a steeper taper only, everything else is the same. If you think you need more fuel in a certain area, then talk to someone or go to sudco and look at the needle specs and pick one out that will help you with the area that needs help. Chances are, if it's running good now, you might just try moving the clip as the weather gets colder. It doesn't hurt anything to try it now, I mean, put them in the 5th clip and if it gets sputtery then you know it's not necessary. It's all trial and error. I was hoping that the needle would help me, but wasn't sure. Only one way to find out and it turned out for the best, but it could've gone either way. Edited October 3, 2004 by sredish Quote

2004LEBanshee Posted October 3, 2004 Author Report Posted October 3, 2004 (edited) Sorry I read the times of my edited post it was just a few minutes befor you probably got finished tryping your post. I had originally wrote I was going to try a bigger needle but then edited it to pilot (because I made a typo). But in the mean time you must have been writing about me getting a bigger needle. Sorry bout that but thanks anywhay. At least now I know there are different size needles. Edited October 3, 2004 by 2004LEBanshee Quote
