420 RACING Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 So I was out riding the other day and when I drag race goin through the gears 2-5 and go to down shift like 5-4-3-2, the shifter is solid will not move. If I push it really hard it will go, but I can't stand riding shit when it is not right. I have a trip planned for next week and need this thing fixed ASAP. Any info would be great THANK YOU!!! Quote
ledofthezep Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 Bent shift forks maybe? Have you checked the shift shaft to see if it's somehow getting bound up on the shift star? Quote
fixitrod Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 Yep, sounds like the teeth on the shifter aren't hitting the shift star right. Get in there and adjust the claw looking thing so it sits in the center of the shift start when it just sitting there. Pic is from meats site. Quote
toolman Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I was having a problem also second would not engage all the way and hard to shift also. I replaced the shifter shaft and clutch about a year ago this helped but it came back worse the second time . Second gear made a funny noise so i figured the gear it self gave out, wrong took it apart split the case and found the shift drum and the shift forks were wore out i'm still waiting for parts from my local stealership.
