hemimike Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hey guys, has anyone ever cut the plunger piston spring in the carbs to make the throttle a little easier to use? If so let me know how it worked out and if there where any implications with the tors. Quote
Holyman Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 That would not necessarily lead to a softer pull since you would have to stretch the spring to it's original length and each coil would have to move more as the carb slide traveled. If you think about it a coil spring is just a twisted torsion spring. So if you had to twist a steel bar, you would want it as long as you could possibly make it. A piece of 1/4x 2" flat bar that is 1 foot long is impossible to twist by hand but a piece that is 10 feet long can be twisted by hand at least a little. So by shortening the spring, you are probably actually making it harder to compress. Quote
blaster105 Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 i heated up the spring and it makes it softer but is the springs bent they wont jus bent back its like a pipe cleaner not u bent it and it stays in the same spot Quote
fixitrod Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 (edited) Just cut 4 to 6 coils and put them back in. Holyman, I never thought of it that way, but it makes since. I wonder what the loss of pull when taking away the metal to what the gain in resistance is by stretching it out. It could go either way. Edited September 7, 2004 by fixitrod Quote
