Wassup350 Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I dont know what the hell im doing wrong. I jsut cleaned my air filter out and i also completely cleaned the throttle assembly and greased it. Now my throttle is sticking all the time!!!! It use to just stick when the carbs or throttle would get wet. But its dryer than hell and it keeps friggan reving!!! I just hit the throttle a little bit and it just revs and revs with out even giving it more freakin gas!!!. so this is for all you guys who get as pissed as me F**K YOU BANSHEE CARBS Quote
boonman Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Take the grease off the slides. My throttle used to stick. BUT, at coalfest, in the rain, all day long on Saturday, it didn't stick once. I don;'t know what the hell happened..... Quote
dogboystoy Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Boon, When I had that problem, it was in the "splitter" where the throttle cable splits in 2, to go to both carbs. The mechanism in there will bind in that little tube. Take a look at it, mine was commin apart inside. all i had to do was crimp a little part and it was all good after that. I did put some grease inside that tube. I also wrapped some electrical tape around it to keep the water out. BTW this was in a motion pro twist throttle cable, but I bet the mechanism is the same for thumb throttles. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Take the grease off the slides. That's what I was gonna tell him to make sure was done (grease the slides)...and to check to see if the choke tube is in there. Why do you say take the grease off the slides boon? Just curious that's all Quote
Wassup350 Posted June 18, 2004 Author Report Posted June 18, 2004 Well i never greased the slides. I greased the thumb throttle inside of it. It all makes sense now though. Because everyone i know with a stock throttle doesnt have the problem of a stuck throttle. But i have a motion pro cable and that is probably the problem. thanks for the advice ill go pull it apart now. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 LOL, I have a stock throttle and my throttle has stuck before! I slapped a small amount of grease on the slides and it solved the problem instantly. Even seemed easier to push the throttle Did you check for the choke tube? I really don't think your problem is because you have a Motion Pro cable. Let us know what turns out of this. Quote
Yamahammer Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 i tried all kinds of stuff and finally narrowed it down the the choke cirquit when it would stick i would open the choke and after i did this a couple times for some reson it fixed it i think water or gas or both build up in the choke cirquit and cause a cituation where the slides stick. if all else fails try it it may work for you alos . ( i know it sounds off the wall but it warked and it was repeatable) Quote
SDD Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Wassup did you happen to change needle settings recently? Quote
dalegoldston Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Check your reeds I bet one is broken. Exact same thing happened to me. Start it idles rough but idles, hit the gas and it revs to the roof. Quote
Wassup350 Posted June 19, 2004 Author Report Posted June 19, 2004 Lol this is like a problem with 10 million different causes. I think ill check out the choke next because it still sticks when ever it gets wet. Maybe the seals are bad and its getting water in it, because my friends with newer banshees dont have this problem. Quote
wesw Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 well to each there own i had this problem and to solve it i removed the carbs and pulled the slides out. i took some scotchbrite pad and went downt the bore adn cleaned the slides up. there wasnt smooth edge on the slides and by doing this it remove it and i havent had a problem since Quote
boonman Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Depends on what kind of grease? For some reason, I never think of thinner grease. i always have like wheel bearing grease on the mind.... I dunno. I've never greased my slides. I have had a couple problems when I originally got my bike, but it hasn't seemed to do it in a long time.... Also, I got a new cable.. BUT, i remember when Rodney was getting the problem to duplicate itself by running rater from a hose on the carb(s). Quote
fixitrod Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I tried the grease, I tried sanding the slides... I even polished the slides with a dremel. Those stock carbs suck ass for water. That's all it comes down to. I did find that when they stick, they do stick at the choke holes in the slide. I could get the problem to repeat itself. I don't know why the vacuum build up. I never did try pulling the choke will it was running that way like yamahammer did. I still think it has something to do with the choke circuit. Someone (I think streetshee) put good clamps on the choke tube and it resolved his problem so far. That's the only thing that makes since after the hrs I spent on them. I even called and talked to an engineer at yamaha but since the technology was old, they wanted nothing to do with it. Quote
xcracer160 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 check the 2 pins that keep the slide straight one of my pins came out and after like1/2 throttle theslide would turn and stick on top of the bigger pin /adle screw. Quote
