SouthernBanshee Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 hi i have to change my spark plug wires and the stealershop offers me some Accel Spark Plug Wire. They have common 8.8 mm wires and 8.8 mm RFI Suppression. He told me that the common wire is for racing cars but the other is used for engines with special ignition components. So, which one for the banshee??? will the common wires mess with the cdi or stock ignition??? Thanx Quote
banshee04le Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I don't know for sure, but I would say that it is possible that the increased em field around the non-rfi (racing) wires could possibly induce interference. I would say buy the rfi cable for any application involving electronic ignition, or if you plan to install a stereo system on your banshee . I don't believe there would be any noticeable performance advantage with the non-resistive wires either. Quote
cdcoxwell Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 The guys at the steelership told me to go to the autoparts store and get plain-jane spark plug wires and cut'em to length. The guys at the autoparts store looked at me as if I were crazy. So, I def. will chk back to see what the scoop is on this subject. Sorry I couldn't be more of assistance Quote
SouthernBanshee Posted May 14, 2004 Author Report Posted May 14, 2004 will the rfi wire give me a poor spark??? Quote
banshee04le Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I guarantee that if you dyno'd between the 2 types of plug wires there would be no noticeable difference....if there was, everyone would be running copper core wire. Stock wires are resistive or rfi type. Quote
dogboystoy Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 All I can recommend is dont buy cheap wires. I bought cheap ones from autozone once, and had to replace them again in a year (for a car). So spend the extra money on good ones whatever you get. And I would think that some High perf. wires for a car would work fine. Quote
