doltz Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 This weekend I was putting a new clutch in & noticed when I went to put the nut onto the threaded shaft some of the threads were stripped out. That is all fine & I ordered some new parts but I am curious when I put the new ones togather if the threded rod just simply threads into the shaft becuse when I tried to back it out it was giving me a fight. Also I have heard of problems with the nut that is part of the shaft twisting in the hex cut on the pressure plate under extreme load. Has anyone gone through either of these. Hinson sells a billet pressure plate instead of the stock cast but it is way expensive. My plate is fine I was just thinking of future problems. Quote
boonman Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 What threaded rod do you speak of? The center adjustment? The thing with the hex on it,(that goes into the pressure plate) and the nut on the outside? Or the transmission shaft that the center hub goes on? Quote
doltz Posted May 10, 2004 Author Report Posted May 10, 2004 Yes the center adjustment shaft with the threaded rod in it. Also what is your take on spinning that nut inside the hex cut out of the pressure plate casting? Quote
boonman Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 those pieces are cheap. I bought all new when I re-did my motor the last time..... Quote
doltz Posted May 10, 2004 Author Report Posted May 10, 2004 Yes I ordered them for like $15 but I was just curious if the threaded rod simply threads into that collar/shaft piece. The one I took off would not freely spin out of the collar/shaft piece. Also I was told that the stock pressure plate was known for allowing the nut to spin inside the hex under heavy loads. Any experience with that scenario? Quote
