Banshee~ Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 will sand eat bearings chain sprokets ect.?if it does how do i prevent it from doing it. Quote
ledofthezep Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 I've never had any issues. Just keep the chain lubed & you're good to go. Quote
lincster Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 It will only eat bearings if it gets in where it shouldn't be. If you have everything sealed, you will be fine. Eat chains... nope. Been doing the dunes hard for 4 years, only on my 2nd chain. Quote
Ducman Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 What I do is put chain lube on at home and take it for a quick ride to fling off the excess then wire brush the chain to get any crud of the chain so its nice and clean. You want a well lubed chain but not drippin with lube or a bunch of sand will stick to it and thats not good. If you can't ride it to fling off excess before the sand then just brush and/or wipe it down good so its not a sand magnate and it wont wear on the chain or sprocket any more than usual. Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 The best thing I've ever found was when I used to mountain bike. Slick50 wouldn't get sand or dirt stuck in it, but WD40 was the WORST!!!! One ride in the sticks and I had to degrease that damn thing. The Slick50 worked wonders. Personally I never wax or grease my chain. Quote
SANDSTAR Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Try the dry graphite spray lubricant. Works great and sand can't stick to it. I get mine at Napa. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 SANDSTAR, did you order that Tatum car yet? We need details.. Quote
SANDSTAR Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 I have a two-seater Spyder on order. (rolling chassis) I was going to put a turbo 2.0 Subaru in it, but I totaled my wife's Tiburon two months ago (trying to drift in a front wheel drive car is hard!) and I am currently trying to see if I can mod the engine/chassis of the spyder to make it work. If I can figure out how to get 300 HP out of a Hyundai engine, I will ditch the Subaru idea and save myself $8000. I bought the car back from the insurance company for $400. They must have not known that there was 5 grand worth of rims/tires/sound system. The engine only has 1200 miles on it. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Well good luck with both projects and keep us posted on the progress, theis heat will end in a few months and then its GLAMIS time once again! Quote
SANDSTAR Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Right on Dune Demon! I hope to be ready by Thanksgiving weekend. Hope to see you there! Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Hope to steal a ride in your new car. I'll be there, we'll talk before then. Quote
