checkster Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 I picked up a Toomey 2:1 filter base my buddy had laying around the garage. Its just the rubber boot that attaches to the carbs. Its kind of flimsy so I was wondering how the filter attaches to it. Does the filter have a metal ring in it or is there suppose to be a metal ring that is used to support the filter base to keep it from collapsing when you tighten up the hode clamp? Anybody have any pics of one taken apart so I cen see what it is suppose to look like? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks check Quote
rzcolobanshee Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 There is nothing to support the boot, the filter just clamps on to it. Once you get it mounted it's suprisingly sturdy. Never had a problem with mine. Quote
KRMit Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 I ran it for a couple years with no problems, then one day the boot came off one of the carbs. I don't think it did any damage though. Just make sure you keep on eye on it. Quote
ledofthezep Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 Mine's been a hell of a lot easier to maintain than my previous K&N clamp-ons, I've never had it pop off the carb or carbs either. Quote
Holyman Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 The base of the filter itself is hard plastic so when you slip the filter into the boot, the filter kind of locks into a rib inside the boot. when you clamp the filter in, the boot is clamping onto the plastic filter base. It's a great filter and I will never use anything else. Quote
2stroker Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Ditto what Holyman said. If you're gonna use an outerware, make sure to keep it from touching the pipes. You will need to rotate the filter just a little to get it centered. Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Its a great filter, just ditch the stock clamps. Get some 2" hose clamps and squeeze down on it. Going on 6 years no problems. Had one pop off the wifes bike when she had it, but it was our fault. Didn't have those stupid stock clamps tight enough. Quote
