Just curious...don't believe you have to, but do you have to crack the case to replace the shift shaft? Mine keeps getting bound up on the shiftstar, pops out & I have to un-bind it. Shimming up the shifter has helped, but I believe the piece on the shaft that shifts the gears along the shift star is bent a bit *I think*& since shee's naked to the frame right now & I have the motor on my work bench I thought about replacing it. Was just wondering for sure or not if you have to crack the case to get'r dun?

No, you can pull the shift shaft through clutch side easily after removing the shifter. Check to make sure the lock nut and tab are tight on the pivot pin. Mine came loose before and caused shifting problems. If you pull the shaft make sure you get a new seal on the shifter side.

I broke that pivot adjustment once in half. Then it came loose once.

You have to have it adjusted correct.

This pin is bent from the factory so you can adjust its like a little cam.

I thought it was my shift shaft. Thought it was bent.

I was stuck in 5th and 6th those little fingers that grab the posts on the shift star were out of adjustment.turn it while in any gear and it should si equal distance between the pins on the shift star.

I reread your post and ill bet your just out of adjustment. locktight and a 12 mm will hold it with that bent tab washer.

But back to the question just take off your clutch cover and remove your shifter.

Then just pull it out.

I do remember. And im shure it was you. You told me to put some rubber washers on the out side of the electrical cover between the shift lever. This gets ride of the slop of the shift shaft moving in in out. It works Great

I will have the sure fire cure soon boyz and girls. How does a thrust bearing and shaft collar sound? TO go up against the CASE, not the flexible side cover...... Positive placement of the shift shaft..... And unnoticeable to the untrained eye..... ;)

What size (mm) is the shift shaft anyway? I need to get a washer with the correct inside diameter to try Leds little shift shaft play eliminator trick.

Couldn't tell ya ducman,...I just got me a rubber washer off of some sink hose, and a handful of washers I had laying around & found a couple to fit snug on the shaft. ;)

Boonman,...where ya at?;)
