rickdog81 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 What are you supposed to do to "break in" the engine on a new banshee? Also is $4500 a good price for a stock 2003 banshee that has not seen any dirt and has been on for only 10 minutes in the garage. It comes with a trailer, riding gear, and gas cans for $4500. Is that a reasonable price? what should I inspect on the Banshee before buying it to make sure the seller is selling me a messed up atv? Quote
lfmer20 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 that sounds like a pretty good deal with the trailer and all. i would just check it's running condition(listen for odd noises with the engine.) if it's brand new make sure the sprockets, chain, brakes, and stuff like that are still new if he said it's never seen dirt. also check for leaks around the engine and exhaust. i would check the frame to be sure there are no cracks in the welds. just my opinion, hope it helps. peace... fel0n Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Hmmm... How to break in a Banshee, interesting question, RIDE THE SHIT Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 just ride it like you norm would, i would stay away from riding at wot(wide open throttle) for a long distance thou Quote
. Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 if you do a search on it you should come up with your answers. I posted how I break in engines and a few others have as well since the new forums have come along. It's probably gone through its initial heat cycles, I know yamaha does one when they put it together, and if he says he's run it in his garage for a heat cycle, you should be able to go to the first stages of riding it around varying the throttle. Check everything out on it, if its never seen dirt, you'll be able to tell. The nubs on the stock tires should be perfect basically. It should look exactly like it does on the showroom floor. Check every little thing out about it. Listen to the engine, it should be a pretty clean running sound. Ask him tons of questions. Why he's selling it, what exactly he's done to it since its left the showroom floor, etc etc. Quote
eehsnab2 Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Sounds like a hell of a deal! Quote
SANDSTAR Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Ask him if you can take it for a ride. Open that bitch up in sixth and show her who's boss. Toss that dumb asswipe $4500, hook up and haul ass before I find him. Breaking in is done at the factory. Quote
spoin39 Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 I usually mix the gas at 20:1 for the first two tanks and vary the throttle alot. Don't run at the same speed for a long time. After that find a good brand of oil to use (I like redline) and mix it at 32:1 or 40:1 and let her EAT! Also check all the bolts after you ride a time or two, they tend to loosen up sometimes when new. Quote
Blue Duece Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Make sure all the paper work is in order, check the vin# on the pink against the bike....and if he doesnt have the pink, go with him to the bank and pay it off, if you take the bike with no title he could have jacked it, shit id even ask to see his id to make sure hes the owner.....and look at the air cleaner, and air box, and if the chains never been adjusted there will still be little paint marks across where the 12mm nut sits on the 10mm bolt.........
