Well after spending gobbs of money at the cycle mechanic's to keep my YFZ 450 running, after missing out on countless OHV park trips due to issues with the YFZ engine. After spending countless days trying to troubleshoot the son of a bitch on my own so as to not spend anymore $$ i got to a point where i could have bought a brand new quad with the amount of money i had sank into this bike.

Having grown disgusted with the finicky YFZ engine and all its 1,000,000 sensors my god!!!. I decided I was going to sell the piece of shit and get back on a Banshee. Atleast I can work on a Banshee without NEEDING to plugging it into a laptop for crying out loud. Yeah i was fairly pissed off over the whole ordeal.

I had picked up the YFZ off a buddy of mine for $1500 which was fair. He just had to get rid of it quick and i had just a few months earlier sold my Honda 450r and missed it so bad that I jumped at the offer. Little did i know i bought a lemon. It was previously a race bike 510 bigbore and when it was running i have to say it was right up there with the fastest quads ive ever ridden. It had all extended A arms, Elka Shocks, Nerfs, Houser +1? 2 Steering Stem, Protapers, ITP rims with nice rubber. I thought man what a waste to just kick it on down the road.

I put it up for sale on Craigslist but i knew damn well id be taking a huge loss on it. I had about $4000 in it by now and selling a YFZ possibly blown? Not really knowing what was wrong with it i was getting some insulting offers lol. I mean damn what a kick in the seeds.

One day was watching ATV youtube vids and came up on the YFZ/ YZ250 Hybrid video and it was like a sign from god. I thought YES!!! that is what im going to do.

So i began shopping for a YZ 250 on the local craigslist and finally found one a few weeks later in my price range. Was a 1991 YZ 250 in decent shape paid the lad $900 for it and began the transformation that very same day. A few weeks later this is what i wound up with. YFZ 250

For anyone who is interested in pics or advice on doing this particular swap id be glad to walk you through it. May eventually post another thread to cover how i did mine. Just let me know and ill make it happen.

Thats a pretty neat conversion dude....So what are your plans with this bike?  and how difficult was it to swap in the yz250 motor?

At the present time this bike has had the YZ pulled out and put a fresh rebuilt Banshee in. The YZ was not to difficult at all to transplant into the YFZ Chassis. There is plenty of room to comfortably fit everything with only minor fabrication of brackets and motor mounts. The swingarm mod and alignment of the sprockets is really the most challenging part to work through. Id say it was EZ in comparison to stuffing the Banshee in the same compartment.

Ive seen the YFZ/Banshee cross done on various forums around the net and truthfully ive only seen just a couple that id consider a clean swap done real professional like. The pipes always seem to be what gets butchered up to make it all work. Or out of frame drag pipes is the other method.

For my build I wanted to do an MX YFZ-Shee as I like to catch some air and i ride like a possessed maniac lol. I turn into another dude on that quad boy just love ripping shit up.

I come from an extensive background in the Masonry Trade having worked for some major outfits over the years which is where i get alot of my skill set from. The other part comes from fabricating 1 of a kind specialty equipment mostly scaffolding units from structural steel to fit specific applications where conventional equipment is obsolete.

Over the years ive developed the ability to measure with my eyeball, lengths of material and also complex angles with a great deal of accuracy for not even picking up a tape or any other instrument. This ability really came into play hardcore on this build with how tight of space i had to work with to mesh the Shee with the YFZ. I found that I really really i mean really fucking enjoy doing these hybrid builds. It has become my passion.

So back to the build. Its going to take me awhile to lay it all out as i have pics from start to finish every step of the way. And im still not finished lol. Getting close but got a ways to go before i call it a finished piece. Presently im getting caught back up to speed on tuning the engine for the type of riding ill be doing. Its been a long time since my last Banshee so im way behind the times with all the new options available. Ill be trying diffrent things until i find that snap im looking for.

I suppose ill start off the pics where the YZ 250 motor took a shit. I guess i whooped up on it a lil to hard and cracked the head from the intake port halfway around the cylinder.

i actually have a 94 yz250 engine i'm considering doing after he yfzshee is done.

i also just bought a nicely built yfz450 with a ton of suspension parts on it  built motor with lots of reciepts for 3k.  rode it one time to see what the suspension felt like  took it straight home  motor sold and out it came.  all suspension stem bars etc is going on the ole banshee conversion..   i hope to update the post soon.  didnt want to ride it too much  i knew at any random moment it might explode.

i can tell you PLEASE take your time on the pipes and plan on extensive modification to fit a radiator in between the front frame rails so you can tuck the pipes in right..

Yep I got more updates coming. Been a busy last 4-5 days. I finally figured out how to get all my pics and videos off my phone so there be loads of good pics throughout the whole build. And just to cut the suspense a bit I'm going to throw up an update of where I'm at with it currently. Stayed tuned and thanks for following along.

A small update. Im hella busy these days so i thought id drop some pics of the Shee randomly picked from start to nearing completion. Along with a few pics of the fabrication going into this build on the chassis and exhaust. I found that the Vito's fat bastard pipes were a bit to large for the engine bore and setup so i fabricated a scaled down  low/mid range set of pipes  that fit inside the modded chassis exactly the same as the vitos. I know my 2:1 silencer is the shit. Only Gytr banshee 2:1 in the world. Tell me what yall think. Peace ooot Clownboy

Good point  Cam.  I started out using a stock YFZ 450 radiator mounted smack behind the front shock mounts and in front of the steering stem. We gently bent the radiator in a slight V and finagled it into the small space. It actually worked out quite well but the crudeness of the bend made me want to do better. I wound up using an aftermarket oversized alum radiator for the end result. Needless to say no way in hell it was going to fit in the same cut as the much slimmer stock radiator so the frame went back on the fab table.  wound up moving the steering stem seat back approx 2" which changed the angle of the stem and also pushed the already +1 Houser up another 1.5".

At first i thought the pitch might be a little extreme but after riding it i absolutely love the way it feels and handles. The angle is by far more ideal than the OEM position and with the extra rise on the height of the handle bars its really comfortable. I told a homie of mine it felt like a BMX dirt jumper and i bet i could bunny hop with it lol. That damn radiator situation was probably the most perplexing obstacle to overcome on the entire build but im glad i took the time to do it right.
