WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 So im i the only one to spray reeds down with brake clean? No, you're not the only one. I clean EVERYTHING with brake cleaner. (except clear clutch cover lenses…..that doesn't work out too well.) Quote
99 shee Posted April 22, 2014 Author Report Posted April 22, 2014 Ty john. Hearing that I think I'm going to replace the reeds. I'm putting a good chuck of change into the motor and don't need future problems...that was much more helpful than telling me to suck on them. Quote
WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Well some members get all bent outta shape when I post anything approaching a paragraph. As you can see, a good answer requires more effort than a tweet. I didn't realize just what you were trying to DO till you posted about metal in the reeds. That requires more effort than sucking. LOL Quote
jharader Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Brake cleaner for the win. X2 on clear covers though, unless you like a glazed donut look $20 mistake Quote
Finch Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Brake cleaner for the win. X2 on clear covers though, unless you like a glazed donut look $20 mistake so glad im not that only one that has ruined one haha Quote
bansheefromhell Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 No, you're not the only one. I clean EVERYTHING with brake cleaner. (except clear clutch cover lenses…..that doesn't work out too well.) Yeah my friend did it and spider webbed mine.... Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 So im i the only one to spray reeds down with brake clean?Do Not Spray those reeds with brake cleaner! It will start the break down of the outer layer that holds the carbon weave together. Quote
jharader Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Tricked, do u feel it would actually break it down that quickly? Ive never had any issue's with it, but then again im not dunking it into a vat either. Been using brake cleaner for a good 20years and never witnessed any dissolving issues. Has me curious now Quote
jbooker82 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 I figured they could handle break clean since they have fuel flowing over them the whole time the engine is running. Id be more hesitant with carb clean before I would with break clean. Quote

Id be more hesitant with carb clean before I would with break clean. Brake clean is much different. (That's why we can clean carbs with it when topping off your tank with more gas won't.) LOL But there are two styles of brake cleaner. One style is more aggressive than the other. I was using the less aggressive style with no issues. Then I switched to the more aggressive stuff and frosted a cover. So, if THAT style can frost a clear clutch cover......I imagine it can mess with reeds. So........maybe he's got a point. Depending on the style cleaner you use. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 ^ that. To clarify. I wouldn't say it'll melt them immediately when you spray it on, but when you see that stuff frost certain materials, ask your self what that is doing to the resin over the carbon fiber weave? Quote
jharader Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Makes sense. Side note: not to stray off topic but if u do manage to cloud a lens it can be reversed very easily with mothers chrome polish and a powerball very easily. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk Quote
