bansheefromhell Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 went for a ride Sunday and about 4 hours into the ride I let off the gas and it died. was very hard to get to start, it would rev out but as soon has I let off it died. we towed it back cause I didn't want to do any damage to it, got home cleaned the carbs thoroughly with air and cleaner hoping it was a low side jet stopped up, put it back together did the same damn thing, it also would kick back hard sometimes and backfire, that made me think the the flywheel slipped. I will check that tomorrow, just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone. Quote
tdod101 Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 Might be time for a new top end. Check compression Quote
blast off Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 yup, check the reeds. did it backfire through the exhaust or back through the carbs? Quote
bansheefromhell Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 yup, check the reeds. did it backfire through the exhaust or back through the carbs? exhaust, reeds are new v force 4's Quote
bansheefromhell Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 it might sound stupid but I kind of hope I need a new topend, I've been wanting to send the cylinders off to FAST and have it freshened up Quote
blast off Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 Similar thing was happening to VoOK he other day with brand new VF4's. 1 side was smoking more, he went nuts trying to figure out why, thought it was the carbs, electrical etc. When he swapped the left reed to the right the problem followed and there is no visible damage to the reeds except that one of them seems harder to bent. Moto Tassinari is sending him a new one for free. Check the reeds lol Quote

bansheefromhell Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 put the v3s in and still the same, I'm going to have to get a new compression tester I borrowed my dads and it's 30 years old, showing 30lbs on the cylinder that it was running on.... Quote
bansheefromhell Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 left cylinder is dead barley even registering on the gauge right is at 150, I'm wondering if I've even should have been running pump fuel in it, I just took the guy's word when I bought it that he said it runs on pump fuel. whelp ill be giving FAST a call! bansheefromhell Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 no signs of detonation but it looks pieces of a ring are stuck in the piston and dome Quote
