emtbanshee Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 So i finally started tearing down the banshee. Hopefully it will be done before the lake freezes over. Also got a new work box and a gopro hero 2 from the wife for xmas. has anyone else had a problem with a seized swing arm bolt. i had to cut mine out. and in the process ended up getting a corneal abrasion. Put the pivot works rebuild kit in and now i am just waiting on the bolt and my chain slider kit to come in. next project is to wet sand the plastics and get some of those scratches out. i finally posted a few pics. Jereme6655 Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Emt...your not the only one around here who has had to cut out the swing arm bolts......they seize up when they don't get greased often. Were you wearing safety glasses when you were cutting out the bolt or.....which I'm guessing.....you weren't wearing them and got some metal in therea? Ive had a corneal ulcer before.....fuck that.....I learned my lesson. Quote

Motooutcastxxx Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 I am fairly new to the Banshee scene (and this site) and am currently having the exact same problem with the swingarm bolt, how does one exactly "cut out the swingarm bolt"? I'm not sure the previous owner even knew what grease is! Anyway I was getting ready to hack it all up but if I can do it and salvage the swingarm that would obviously be better.. It's coming off one way or another but any tips you guys might have I'm all ears, it's the only thing holding the frame up from going to PC. Quote
emtbanshee Posted January 3, 2012 Author Report Posted January 3, 2012 You need to get a sawzall with a long blade and cut inbetween the dust cap and swing arm. I didn't get the abrasion from cutting. I was prying out the old bearing sleeve and a piece broke off. It has been killing me all week finally good enough just in time to go back to work. Quote

andrew3160 Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 We just did one on my buddy's 3 Wheeler. The pivot bolt should be hollow so that you can drill and tap a hole in the center if the hex head on one side and or the center of the threaded end to put a grease fitting in. Then you can drill a small hole where needed on the actual pivot bolt it's self to allow the grease to come out of the center and lube where necessary. Quote

BUILDER Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Or just drill a hole right in the center of the swing arm and tap it for a grease zerk. We just drill all of ours right in the middle and grease them a few times a season. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Builder has the answer on the zerk. As to removeal, maybe can get at it with hack saw? Even with zerk, I would coat bolt with anti-zeize where it goes thru sleeve. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 A hack saw would be pretty time consuming, but with a few extra blades, you could probably get it out of there. That bolt is pretty dam hard, its going to be difficult for sure! I used a sawzall and it was still pretty tough to get it out of there. Anti sieze is your answer for this project. Just apply a very liberal coat when you reassemble! Quote
