I've been wanting to tear my 06SE down and have the frame powdercoated. I've never actually torn a banshee down to the frame and pulled the complete motor out.

 

My question is, how big of a job is this? How easy does the entire motor come out? Anything I need to be aware of before starting or finishing (bushings etc)?

i had my motor out of my banshee in like an hour you have to take the spark plugs out and you motor will come out of the stator side of the frame

Yea its been pretty easy so far..i just started mine also and with a clymers and this site its been easy so far.

Its really easy, just use the suggestions above. Label everything and you will be golden...

Best thing is about the shee is that the swinger bolt doesnt go thru the motor.

Good to know, sounds like it shouldn't be too bad then. I will just make sure I have baggies for bolts, and be organized.

 

Does anyone know if the stock axle can be powder coated? I've seen guys on here with black axles. I can't really spend the $$ on an aftermarket one right now.

another trick i use....especially for things like stripping the carbs down to clean them totally is ill use chafing pans. The kind you put cans of sterno under in the big banquet trays.....this way you have room for all the parts and you can't mix them up if you have seperate containers for each....

I just did this, twice. Both bikes went down to the frame, were powdercoated etc.

 

I bought a couple boxes of zip lock bags from the dollar store, one small one regular, and used a sharpie to label everything.

 

There are a few things it's easier to do with an extra set of hands, removing and reinstalling the motor and the swingarm, but everything else is simple enough.

 

If you can get a table lift http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-capacity-hydraulic-lift-table-94822.html (or similiar) it will make it a lot easier on your back.
