hi all i was wondering if anyone could tell me how this happened or if there just old.the one on the left is from the left cylender.i checked my pistons and they look great so thats why i was wondering about these and if i should look deeper or just get new ones.im running a 4 mil cub with fmf pipes and i had 28m carbs.i found these when i removed the boots cause im putting 35 on it and now i got drag pipes also.any help would be great.

they look old, get a set of boysen two stage reeds, there also should be a plate between the screws

toytech is right....there should be a small metal retainer that goes all the way across the reed tops where the screws go.....basically it acts as a washer. it looks like they're pretty old....they may have just failed due to age....or as they got older they became more brittle and a back-fire could have occured and put pressure on the already weak reeds forcing them to break. id throw a set of cheap boysen reeds in there and forget about it.

If you have stock jugs with no porting get Boyesen Pro Reeds (they are carbon fiber) Those will last a lot longer. Also, whoever put those reeds on didn't do it right. As others are saying the metal band that goes across the bolt edge is what gives the reeds the help they need. A new set will come with those and please use them.
