Larry's Shee Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) Have oversize tank with peeling paint, bought it cheap. Would paint remover melt the plastic? Just want to make it look better and maybe paint it. I am aware of the paint and gas problem. Edited March 3, 2011 by Larry's Shee Quote
ionroller Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 But are you aware that the oversize gas tanks breath. You cant paint them, it will peel off just like yours is. you have to get it molded in the color you want if you want color. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 That's what I was refering to. Maybe I'll try Ritt clothes dye. Can't be any worse than the ugly ass off-white it is now. Still wondering about the stripper. Quote
Starwriter Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Try oven cleaner. Mr. Muscle, Easy Off, or something. If it's cheap paint, it will take it off and it shouldn't hurt the plastic. I used it on Honda 250R fender plastics a long time ago, and it didn't hurt that plastic. If it's some kind of high quality automotive paint, it won't do anything. It works great for taking lettering enamel off cars without hurting the rest of the paint on the car. Quote
Coupelx Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 some auto parts stores sell stripper specifically for plastics. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted March 4, 2011 Author Report Posted March 4, 2011 I'll go check them out. Thanks. Quote
