Kixx007 Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Ok. First off this is post #1, I've searched around, but will admit I suck at searching. I currently have a project that a student brought into my shop a few weeks ago. It is an 1987 Banshee with some work done to it. I've got no clue whats been done to it. There is no paperwork history what so ever. His plan was to throw it back together with stock cylinders bored to 66.00mm. He purchased all the parts in brought everything in together. I went through the parts with him, measured the new cylinders, and started prepping to put it together......... When I discovered something odd. The wrist pin bearings are to large for the connecting rods.. So I had him bring in the pistons and cylinders that he took off. Which turned out to be bored, ported (heavily, looks pretty rough though), and had blaster pistons in them (67.50mm). So basically, I am not a Banshee guy. I've never kept up on all the different combinations and modifications you can do to them. So I am hoping someone can help me. Please feel free to ask any specific questions, and I will answer to the best of my ability. Quote

Kixx007 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 Blasters and Banshees both use a 16mm wrist pin and I believe the same wrist pin bearing. I can beleive that. As I have 2 blaster wrist pins and 4 banshee wrist pins. They are all the same. I have 4 Banshee wrist pin bearings and 0 Blaster wrist pin bearings, So I can not verify if the bearings are the same or not. I can verify that none of the Banshee bearings fit into the connecting rod, but they do fit all of the wrist pins I have. Quote

I believe that Wiseco make 2 different OD size bearings that both fit a 16mm pin. According to the Wiseco catolog, Banshees and Blasters use the same pin and bearing. I believe you have the wrong bearings for the Banshee/Blaster application. Either that or somebody has put some rods on the crank that are incorrect which is HIGHLY unlikely. Quote

Well, I have I new set of Banshee bearings and one used set, which I just picked up from a banshee that ran, they are all the same size. Would the bearings be different if this is a stroke set up? Larry's Shee Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 So are they the same size as old brgs? What was wrong with the cyls he took off? Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 My guess is he was given the wrong brgs. Quote
Kixx007 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 My guess is he was given the wrong brgs. Pretty confident this is not the case. I have a set of cylinders and pistons with wrist pins and bearings that came DIRECTLY from a running banshee. So unless that banshee had the wrong rods, bearings etc, then I do not have the wrong bearings. Can someone point me in the direction of someone who knows about stroker kits? Quote
Kixx007 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 I measured the inside diameter of the connecting rod. It is 20mm. The outside diameter of the wrist pin bearing is 21mm. The spec listed for a blaster/banshee bearing is, 21mm. Quote

The spec listed for a blaster/banshee bearing is, 21mm. As far as I know, strokers use the same size bearings as stock. There are 2 different length rod for a Banshee,110mm and 115mm. Both rods are used with standard stroke cranks and can be used with stroker cranks although usually only the115mm ones are used for strokers. Depending on how it is setup, you use either 513 series or 795 series pistons which both take the same pin/bearing. As long as you measured accurately, then you have a set of non standard rods and are going to have to change them to get it together. Quote

I'd like to first figure out what I have, before I go tearing it down to replace the rods. EDIT: The rods have "MADE IN JAPAN" on them, along with "2T2." A simple google search returned an RD400. So I went to Wiseco's page and looked up wrist pin bearings for an RD400. 16mm inside diameter, same as a Banshee/Blaster. 22.5mm long long, same. 20mm outside diameter, same as the connecting rod's on this bike. Has anyone ever heard of, or done it thereself, of putting RD400 rods in a Banshee? Quote

Larry's Shee Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Now this is a horse of a different color! Were the cyls you (he) took off air cooled or water cooled? Quote
Kixx007 Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 Now this is a horse of a different color! Were the cyls you (he) took off air cooled or water cooled? LOL. Water. They are Banshee cylinders, bored, sleeved and bored to fit the blaster pistons. The engine bottom case is a banshee case, 2GU-009455. Quote
