Porting looks pretty good ?

Based on how smooth that port job is, I'd say it was extrudehoned as well. This is a good thing. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Smooth ports are an advantage and show a dedication to good work which should say a lot about who did the porting. Otherwise can't really tell what type of port job it is. Looks good to me.

 

extudehoned makes ports look pretty, but that's it. i know of a guy that had his sled cylinders extrudehoned, and he lost hp. he had to bead blast the intake and transfers and then he got back 4hp. bead blasted intake and transfer ports is more than smooth enough, w/just enough texture to atomize the air/fuel mixture. the only port that is safe to polish, is the exhaust.

stock reed cages and gaskets on both sides! If your going with a one piece intake, a little red rtv never hurt anything also. From the pics it looks good, hard to tell in pics and cant tell what it is by picture need to measure.

 

don't need gaskets on both sides of the reed cage, as the rubber intake boot, has a o-ring type lip built into it for sealing against the aluminum reed cage.

Do I just buy four of the gaskets that go between the intake port and reed cage then? Also do I need to replace the used gasket that is already installed? I didnt rip or tare when I took the cage off.

 

you could re-use the gasket, seeing as it didn't tear, but i personally would apply some "hi-tack" to the side of the gasket that will now seal against the reed cage, for insurance against a air leak.

port work looks real neat

 

it does look very even. whoever did it had a steady hand at least. the "bevel" applied around the ports is very even and consistant. there is alot of room left in there yet for improvement.

To me it looked to be extrudehoned as well as ported. I did lots of port work allover my Mustang and all i'm saying is that extrudehoning was a nice complement to porting on my intake but that was a fuel injected motor. It all looks nice n clean to me.

Ive always heard never polish the intakes, fuel will bead up, etc.

some porters choose not to polish the intake side of the port because when gas as a mist touches a very smooth surface it wants to turn into a droplet.. in other words ur gas will tend to puddle in ur cyclinders after it shoots out the carb....

lol, hell yah, that's just the window info, but a good porter will shape the rest of the flow appropriately, unless it's just another 4stroke porter following a templet...........and, how did i miss that guys' post? yah, "extrudehoned" or simply "pollished" on anything but the exhaust will alow the atomized fuel to find the "calm" area aginst the smooth surface and fall from the air......texture provides turbulance, like you find on a golf ball, and creates a coushin of turbulant air that allows the full charge to slide on past, like an air lubricant. this keeps the full mixed charge suspended, and not falling/collecting on the surfaces.......ok, i'm not gonna lie.....i'm drunk right now......and, you can milti-quote mopar, for one post, not 6, or whatever, lol
